Call for Artists: Beyond the Box Mural Art Program, USA

Under this Call for Artists (“CFA”), the Library, Arts & Culture Department (“Library”) of the City of Glendale (“City”)— on behalf of the City’s Arts & Culture Commission (“ACC”)— is accepting proposals from qualified candidates who would like to participate in its’ Beyond the Box – Utility Box Art Program (“Program”).  A successful applicant will be required to adhere to the Program requirements set forth herein below.

This project is open to all local and regional artists. The ACC encourages applications from both new and established artists. Glendale artists may be given preference if all else is equal. Artists may apply as an individual artist or as a group. For group submissions, a signed Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement for each participating artist must be included in addition to the application form and design template. Group submissions may be for a single utility box or multiple utility boxes. No more than three submissions per individual or group. City of Glendale employees are not eligible to apply.

The Library and the ACC have designed a program to support public art programs and to enhance the community and neighborhoods through the use of art. The Beyond the Box – Utility Box Art Program enhances the aesthetics of the city, promotes civic pride, increases pedestrian traffic and extends public art to new areas and unexpected places while creating an attractive environment and allowing art to be introduced to the public in a creative and inventive way. The program goal is to bring beauty to unexpected places such as public infrastructure and utility boxes.

This Call For Artists is for a Beyond The Box – Utility Box Art Program art painting event that will take place from October 14 - 20, 2024 with selected utility boxes throughout various locations in Glendale.

The theme of this year’s Beyond the Box – Utility Box Art Program is Art & Science Collide in celebration of Glendale Library, Arts & Culture’s participation in PST ART: Art & Science Collide, which is the Getty Foundation’s Southern California regional arts and culture initiative returning in September 2024. This year’s theme, Art & Science Collide, will create opportunities for civic dialogue around some of the most urgent problems of our time by exploring past and present connections between art and science. Applicants are highly encouraged to visit the PST ART: Art & Science Collide website at https://pst.art/en/about to gain inspiration for submissions and proposals.

The ACC would like to encourage artists and community members to create art in the City to beautify the streetscape by incorporating the theme as inspiration for proposal submissions. Artists are not required, but highly encouraged to incorporate volunteers into the art process. Artists may create a template or outline to help volunteers paint the art, or propose another concept for involving volunteers in the art process.

Artists will be required to prime paint their specific utility box. Artists may begin prime painting the utility boxes on Monday, October 14, 2024, and must begin painting utility boxes no later than Friday, October 18, 2024. Painting and application of the final protective coating must be completed by Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The ACC will fund $1,000.00 per utility box, inclusive of all artist’s fees, paints and materials. The ACC anticipates selecting artwork for up to fifteen (15) utility boxes. The utility boxes may maintain the integrity of the artwork for a period of 1 year (or when the City, in its sole discretion, deems appropriate to remove or re-paint the utility box).

Follow Through a BIPOC Lens: Decolonizing Feminism, USA

6 avril 2024 à 15:19

This exhibition seeks to provide space for an inclusive voice in the struggle for representation of BIPOC women in the art world. For 32 years Woman Made Gallery’s vision has been to “ensure the equal placement of women’s art in the world. WMG hosts conversations on issues that matter most to women, helping them make sense of the world through a feminist lens.”

There are many schools of feminist thought; and mainstream feminism has not – intentionally or not – been inclusive of all voices. One such response to this is the “womanist” movement coined by Alice Walker in 1979, for black feminists or feminists of color, to address more specifically the needs of these groups. WMG would like to take a critical look at feminism. We want to hear the voices and view the work of those who have been systematically marginalized.

Please submit images of up three works in all media that include a visual element and have not been previously exhibited at the Gallery. Please address the theme of this exhibition in your work and in your artist statement. The exhibition will be held from October 12 to November 9, 2024 at Woman Made Gallery, 1332 S. Halsted St., Chicago, IL 60607. Entry fee allows submission of up to three works.

7th Midwest Open, USA

6 avril 2024 à 15:19

The Midwest Open is an annual exhibition at WMG that highlights the achievements of women and nonbinary artists living in the American Midwest. According to the United States Census Bureau, the 12 states in the Midwest include Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

For the Midwest Open, a showcase for the vibrancy and diverse views these artists represent, all media and subject matter will be considered. WMG is looking for work unique to the vision of each artist, work that needs the world to complete it, or work that sings a song from the heart(land).

What new series or experiment or story have you ready to share with WMG? Do you have drawings or drafts or proofs with a soul and a power all their own? Open to all media, including works that might be unfinished, but are exceptionally well-crafted, tended to, and bring together the hands and heart. The exhibition will be held from August 31 to September 29, 2024, at Woman Made Gallery, 1332 S. Halsted St., Chicago, IL 60607. Entry fee allows submission of up to three works in any medium.

Cash prizes are awarded to three artists in the exhibition, as designated by the juror.

Superfine Art Fair in Midtown Manhattan During Frieze Week!

“New York City was my highest selling weekend ever. I met the best new collectors who loved and understood my art. It was a phenomenal weekend.” – Sarah Fishbein, Superfine NYC Exhibitor

30,000 square feet + 125 artists. 42nd + 7th Ave. Claim your spot. Discounts are available. Only 12 booths left.

  • Many fairs have moved to Brooklyn, and no matter how you cut it Manhattan still puts you at the center of the art market (+ proximity to the N, Q, R, W, A, C, E, S, 1, 2, 3, 7 lines — and increasing bike-ability — make it easy to get to the fair from anywhere).
  • Superfine aligns with Frieze Art Fair week (we are <10 blocks from Frieze) and we’ve spent a decade building media, cultural, and social partnerships both within and outside of the traditional art world. You can expect not only our usual bevy of buyers, but journalists, curators, and arts leaders to attend.
  • We don’t focus on # of attendees but quality. Our buyers are diverse, affluent, and eager to take home art. Expect 3-5,000 New Yorkers to attend and 40% of them to purchase art in-fair. Your odds of long-term success increase when in addition to original art, you offer affordable prints (<$250) and apartment-sized pieces. This way you cultivate newer collectors, add them to your database, and grow your sales as they grow their lifestyles.

“Finally getting the artwork in front of real people away from my own bias. The smiles, conversations, and overall positivity of the public completely blew my experience out of the water." – Carlos J. Balza Gerardino, Superfine NYC Exhibitor

Why artists choose Superfine:

  • No Commission: Keep 100% of art sales.
  • Expand Your Reach: Over 75% of visitors report coming to buy new art.

Juried Exhibition: Being Human, USA

31 mars 2024 à 18:37

The Painting Center is pleased to present the juried group exhibition Being Human curated by Alix Bailey, Kathleen Beausoleil and Perri Neri. The exhibition will be on view from July 16 - August 10, 2024, and will be featured on Artsy with a catalogue of the artists’ works.

Being Human celebrates the complexities of the human experience – an experience that ignites the artist to explore and reflect on the many layers of humanness such as identity, memory, and connection. What does an artist experience that distinguishes one moment from the others that brings into focus a special “moment of being’ that must be remembered and turned into art? This exhibition invites a multiplicity of artistic styles, from the controlled classical figure to the visceral fevered brushwork of abstraction, to the whittling of something down to its very essence, asking – what it means to be human.

We are curious. Are you an artist who leans into the contours and repetitive rhythms of daily life as a catalyst for new forms? Do you explore your subject matter through a documentary style or a narrative lens? Does your visual vocabulary throw viewers into spaces roiling with the complications of “being” as shapes and colors that struggle to co-exist? This exhibition’s title turns on its verb and considers how the collective voices of artists’ histories, experiences, traumas, and triumphs present the layered and complex act of Being Human.

Artists are invited to submit up to three images. There are no size limitations and all visual art styles and mediums will be considered. The deadline to apply is June 20, 2024. Please note that all works must be wired and ready to hang or be able to be secured on a pedestal.

Exhibition Dates: July 16 - August 10, 2024

Submission Dates: March 15 - June 20, 2024

Our concept strives to create a communal space that can lead to experimental collaboration and discourse between participants, as well as with the greater Leipzig community.

Our program is multi-faceted. Firstly, it includes visiting artist studios, exhibition spaces, project spaces, exhibits, and going on gallery and museum tours. Secondly, almost weekly held consultations together with the curatorial team, to discuss your work, get feedback or challenge it through a different perspective. A preview exhibition or open studio event presenting initial work, takes place mid-way- culminating in a final group exhibition in an exciting venue.  The project publishes an article about each artist on our website and offers documentation to all activities, including installation pictures from the openings. Starting each quarter, one round of our residency program is 3 Months. The program is open to all disciplines, we offer basic tools, but assist if special ones are needed.

Accommodation costs are additional, the project offers one apartment which hosts two artists. We have a network of people who host our artists on a regular base.

The primary languages in use are English and German.
The artists receive all documentation necessary to apply for funding and the visa processes. If required, the project assists with additional individual reference letters. In Addition each accepted artist is offered a partial stipend in kind, provided by PILOTENKUECHE. Furthermore we maintain engagements with several friends, to get in contact with the Leipzig art scene and increase the artists visibility.
