Young Masters Open Call - 'For the love of art history', USA

14 septembre 2024 à 02:38

SUBMIT YOUR WORK TO THE YOUNG MASTERS OPEN CALL ON THE THEME OF ‘FOR THE LOVE OF ART HISTORY’ BY 31 OCTOBER 2024

Our new project is an Open Call for an exhibition of works on the theme of ‘for the love of art history’, selected and curated by Director and Founder of Young Masters, Cynthia Valianti Corbett.

The theme is inspired by Corbett’s own love of art history; a lifelong passion for the old masters, and the art of the past. From masterpieces such as Fragonard’s flirtatious vignette ‘The Swing’, to Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’, or Watteau’s ‘The Scale of Love’ art history offers numerous examples of romantic love. The theme could also be extended to platonic, or religious love, passion, devotion.

Above all, love is the most human of emotions, and art possibly the most human of ways to express it. We’re looking for artists who are inspired by their own love of art history to submit their work on this theme via the CuratorSpace platform until 31 October 2024.

7th Annual Risk Theatre Playwriting Competition, USA

Par : Risk Theatre
12 septembre 2024 à 02:43

Edwin Wong calls on playwrights worldwide to submit plays to the 7th annual 2025 Risk Theatre Modern Tragedy Competition, juried by an international panel of professionals, anonymous to each other and the public until the winners are announced.

Cash prizes of $10,500 for the winner and five $700 prizes for the runners-up (total $14,000).

The Premise of Risk Theatre:

There’s an undercurrent of interest in risk and uncertainty for theatre to capitalize on. We live in an increasingly complex world where unintended consequences abound. More than ever, we have a moral imperative to understand risk. What is risk? What can go wrong? The best place to simulate risk is on the tragic stage. This belief informs risk theatre, which is based on the following premises:

1) tragedy consists of a gambling act in which protagonists wager all-in
2) by wagering all-in, protagonists expose themselves to unexpected and catastrophic low-probability, high-consequence events
3) as the dramatization of a gambling act, the emotional reaction of risk theatre is anticipation and apprehension: anticipation for what the protagonist wagers and apprehension for the price the protagonist, the protagonist’s friends and family, and the community must pay.

"The Body and Its Many Stories”: Virtual Artist Residency, USA

10 septembre 2024 à 18:02

Theme: "The Body and Its Many Stories.”

Nexus Art space, in collaboration with i.e. Art Projects Online Art Foundation, is thrilled to announce an international virtual artist residency with the theme “The Body and Its Many Stories.” We invite artists to explore and express their relationship with their body, something that is inherently unique to each individual. Whether it’s through personal experiences, cultural perspectives, or imaginative interpretations. The participants can consider the body not just as an external object of study, but as a deeply personal experience.

We are seeking art that addresses the challenges of defining and categorizing the body while acknowledging its rich diversity. Your work could explore the tension between personal experiences and broader, often simplified definitions, reflecting on the many stories that each body holds.

During this unique program, we’ll host several virtual meetings, with some taking place in the Metaverse—a space offering extraordinary possibilities for artists.

You will learn about a Spatial platform where users can design and engage in virtual environments, positioning it within the larger Metaverse ecosystem. Spatial provides artists with the tools to create their own spaces, host events, and showcase their art in immersive, digital formats. Additionally, there will be networking opportunities and the potential to build a vibrant community, attracting artists, art enthusiasts, and collectors.

Duration: The residency spans one month, from 1st November 2024 to 29th November 2024, with virtual meetings scheduled twice a week throughout the duration.

Exhibition: The residency will culminate in a virtual group exhibition, showcasing the creative journey and final works of participating artists. Although we are physically apart, this virtual exhibition aims to unite artists and audiences in a shared experience that reflects our collective humanity and community spirit.

Exhibition Venue: The group exhibition will be hosted virtually in the Nexus Artspace Gallery within the Metaverse.

Submission Guidelines: There is no charge for submission. Please submit a portfolio of 5-10 recent artworks, along with your CV, Bio, Artist Statement, and a Cover Letter to: info@nexusartspace.com

This call is open to visual artists, sound artists, video artists and photographers.

Residency Fee: A fee of $300 USD is required for participation. Payment details will be provided to the selected artists for the residency.

Torino Fringe Festival 2025 - Call for italian and international artists and companies, USA

7 septembre 2024 à 20:52

Are you an artist, a company, a creative, a musician, or a performer? Join us!
This call to participate in the Torino Fringe Festival 13, which will take place from 20th May to 1st June 2025, is now open. You can submit your proposals for theatre, audiovisual arts, performance, music, dance, circus, stand-up comedy, or any other performance ideas that come to mind until 21st October 2024.
To apply, you must consult the PDF guidelineslog-in or sign up on portal.tofringe.it, and complete the form with the details of your proposed activity.
You can find the guidelines and links at www.tofringe.it

The Torino Fringe is a multidisciplinary performing arts festival that involves the entire Piedmont region, making it a showcase and a point of reference both nationally and internationally for Off Theatre. Established in 2013, following in the footsteps of major European off festivals, it has involved over 350 national and international companies over the years, with more than 2,500 performances in 75 indoor and 40 outdoor spaces in Turin, attracting over 150,000 spectators.

The festival has always aimed to enhance the enjoyment of live performance culture and improve the quality of artistic proposals in the performing arts landscape, developing a new way of creating culture characterized by its cross-genre and contemporary creative languages.

The festival’s artistic direction develops the event’s programming through a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral system based on the dialogue between different art forms and the dissemination of live performance.

To promote the distribution of shows, the Fringe in Rete project started in 2019: cultural operators and artistic directors from all over Italy attend the festival’s performances, participate in meetings with artists, and commit to making circuit agreements with selected companies. The network aims to drive professional growth opportunities, create occasions for meetings, exchanges, discussions, and training. Debates and reflections open to artists and the public are also planned: thematic conferences and workshops led by industry experts and professional meetings are offered.

The thirteenth edition of the Festival will take place from 20TH May to 1st June 2025. The shows for the 13th edition will be selected through this call.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:

Individual artists or companies of any nationality can participate, with shows in any language, published or unpublished. All genres of live performance are accepted.
Only professional artists and companies with ex-ENPALS agibility or otherwise contracted according to current legislation are allowed.

FOUND AND DISCOVERED

Call for Exhibition │Free entry

Accepted media: Photography, Video,Digital Visual Design

Group Exhibition in Rome. April 2025

For more than a century, photography has been used as a documentary medium to detect the signs of human passage in our surroundings. The use of photographic, and subsequently even video, media allows the focus of attention to be placed on the single object or trace "discovered", from which information about human behavior can be captured .

One of the major changes that occurred during the early years of the twentieth century in the field of aesthetic phenomenology is, as a matter of fact, determined by the introduction of these new means of detection of reality, means that consent us to adopt a new way of grasping from reality the elements that we believe useful in the creation of a discourse.

Grasping and analyzing also means to extrapolate from a context the objects that interest us, found objects that become compositional elements in a new expression of the self.

Not only objects, but also places can reveal something that we consider significant for history and science, for our collective memory and our individual memory.

The call is open to photographic, video and visual digital works, that present themselves as the result of an expression of research, discovery, valorization, analysis or critique, revealing what we seize from human and natural environmental contexts.

CSUN West Gallery

October 28 – December 12, 2024

Submission Deadline: September 13, 2024

CSUN Art Galleries invites local artists to submit portrait-based works to be considered for exhibition.

Seeing and Being Seen investigates the potential that portraiture holds as a method of remembrance, empowerment, and reflection. It is a collection of works that explore the human urge to create and document themselves and those around them — recording our existence on pottery, in marble, on canvas, and on phones. The portrait is not as restricted as it was centuries ago – it is accessible to many more people and can extend beyond literal representations. Contemporary portraiture invites us to reexamine the intent of the artist and its relationship to the people being presented.

The 12th Annual 2024 International “FL3TCH3R Exhibit: Social & Politically Engaged Art” Deadline- August 23, 2024/ Extended Deadline- August 24-31, USA

International ‘FL3TCH3R Exhibit’ Invites Artists for 2024 Exhibition at ETSU’s Reece Museum

PLEASE POST & SHARE THIS ANNOUNCEMENT AMONG YOUR NETWORKS!

Johnson City, TN — Artists from around the world are invited to participate in the 12th annual “FL3TCH3R Exhibit: Social & Politically Engaged Art” at East Tennessee State University’s Reece Museum. This prestigious international juried exhibition will be held from September 30 to December 6, 2024.

The exhibition, renowned for its exploration of contemporary social and political movements, will feature a diverse array of artworks that address pressing global issues. The 2024 juror, Meaghan A. Dee is an Associate Professor and Chair of Graphic Design as well as a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Creativity, Arts, and Technology at Virginia Tech. Meaghan is both a practicing graphic designer and design educator bringing expertise and vision to the selection process.

“There is no specific theme for entries this year, allowing artists to focus broadly on socially and politically engaged art,” said co-directors Barb, Wayne, and Carrie Dyer. However, the call to “MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT TO PRESERVE OUR DEMOCRACY!” will be highlighted in this year’s exhibition. Entries are now being accepted online via:

FL3TCH3Rexhibit.com/downloads/prospectus.pdf.

The submission deadline is August 23, 2024, with an extended deadline until August 31 for an additional fee. Artists may submit up to three entries for a non-refundable fee of $40, with each additional artwork/title costing $10. Submissions will be accepted in the categories of audio/sound, ceramics, digital, fiber, glass, graphic design, jewelry/metals, mixed media (2D and 3D), painting, performance/installation (via video), photography, printmaking, book arts, sculpture, video/film, medical/health care visual artists' works.

A portion of the entry fees fund the Fletcher Hancock Dyer BFA Graphic Design Scholarship, benefiting ETSU Art and Design students. This scholarship honors the memory of Fletcher H. Dyer, a talented artist and former ETSU student. The exhibition was created to forward the legacy of former student, artist, graphic designer, and the Dyers’ son, and brother Fletcher H. Dyer, age 22, who was lost too soon in a motorcycle accident on November 5, 2009.

Fletcher envisioned art as a powerful medium for social change. His legacy inspires the exhibit’s mission to foster dialogue on critical social issues through artistic expression. Fletcher created works that addressed social and political issues that concerned him through visual means. He believed that everyone should have their own ideas about their environment and the world around them and a safe way to express whatever they are. Fletcher wrote, "I dream of making a difference in some way with my art, I might attempt to right political, social, and religious wrongs by showing the rest of society a glimpse of how I feel about serious issues in the world... Hopefully the awareness that I can help create will spark an interest in a movement that others will follow." Fletcher’s work embodied a purposeful, deliberate perspective and it was his personal endeavor to employ art as social commentary.

“We continue to support artwork that advocates for democracy, voting rights, and confronts systemic racism,” stated co-director Carrie Dyer, underscoring the exhibit’s commitment to social justice.

More than $2,000 in awards will be presented during the exhibition reception and juror talk on Thursday, November 7, at 5 p.m. at the Reece Museum, offering artists an opportunity for recognition and discussion of their work.

Request for Qualifications: Buffalo Street Mural Project in Johnson City, TN, USA

12 août 2024 à 23:08

The Public Art Committee of Johnson City, TN is seeking qualifications from artists or art teams for the commission of a mural to be located at 700 Buffalo Street in downtown Johnson City.

ELIGIBILITY: This opportunity is open to all professional artists over the age of 18. Applicants must reside within the United States.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Johnson City Public Art Committee has invested in several murals aimed at celebrating the community’s distinctive identity, rich cultural history, and reverence for our shared home in Northeast Tennessee. One of the most recent additions to the mural program highlights regional artists’ important and ongoing contributions to American music and craft. Continuing in this vein, the Committee is launching a new mural that will focus on our community’s dynamic tradition of oral and written literature and their vivid, vernacular forms of storytelling. The mural project encourages artists to explore the intersection of word and image through engagement with local poetry. A diverse selection of poems, composed by three different modern and contemporary poets local to the region, are provided for inspiration (included in “Appendix” section of the RFQ document). Artists are free to work with any number of the poems that resonate with them. Visual responses to the poetic text do not need to be literal or illustrative. Artists are encouraged to borrow freely, even impressionistically, from the poems. Text may be incorporated into the composition, but this is not required. The Committee hopes that the resulting mural will resonate with the poetic legacy of our region, excite viewers’ imaginations, and foster pride in our community.

MURAL SITE: The mural site is located on the back wall of a downtown business and faces a parking lot adjacent to Ashe Street. The site is located within the W. Walnut corridor, an area that is currently undergoing redevelopment. There is a fair amount of vehicular traffic at the mural site, though there is also frequent foot traffic. Foot traffic is likely to increase in the future as plans for redevelopment include pedestrian and bike-friendly components ranging from East Tennessee State University to downtown Johnson City.

The wall is painted brick and approximately 60’ x 30’ (view images in the RFQ document for detailed measurements). The top of the wall is tiered, starting at a higher elevation on the left side of the wall and dropping to a lower elevation on the right side.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

 Completed submission form
 Signed insurance checklist (The insurance checklist must be signed by either the artist’s insurance agent and the artist stating the policies currently held OR signed by the artist stating that he/she will obtain the required insurance policies if awarded the commission)
 Signed general contract form
 Cover letter/letter of intent
 Resume
 10 digital images of previous artwork (Combine images into one pdf file)
 Contact information for 3 professional references

Please note: Art teams must submit qualifications under the name of one lead artist. In the cover letter, the lead artist must indicate that they plan to work as part of a team and must list the names of the artist(s) within their team. Art teams shall submit at least 10 images of previous artwork, but they may submit up to 10 images for each team member if desired.

ROOTS: An International Exhibit About Family, Connections, & Origins, USA

Par : Manifest
9 août 2024 à 04:35

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works about family, heritage, ancestors—for art about siblings, parents, children, the homes we make, the bonds of care, about where we came from and where we might grow. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media.

Family gives us a sense of culture through the languages used within it, the food cooked, the hierarchies and customs within, the histories and stories told. Family is shared experience, a shared home, a shared ease of being. Family moves beyond mere identity, however—it implies love, support, and a connection with a sense of obligation, in sickness and in health. It certainly includes, but isn’t limited to parentage and progeny. Family is made through the act of care, and we find and give that care in people beyond bonds of tradition. When does friend, does neighbor, become family?

TAPPED: 15th Annual Exhibit of Paired Works by Artists and
their Current or Former Instructors*, USA

Par : Manifest
9 août 2024 à 04:35

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works of art in any media, any genre/style, and any size in tandem with their teacher or student, past or present. Submission to this exhibit may be initiated by either party.

The relationship between artists and their current or former instructors can be a powerful one. Even when this bond is left unstated, we carry our professors' voices forward in time as we mature as artists and people. We eventually realize that the instruction given by our teachers during our relatively brief careers as students continues to expand within us. We realize that the learning they inspired (or insisted upon) is a chain-reaction process that develops across our lifetime. All of us who have been students carry forward our teachers' legacy in one form or another. And those who are, or have been teachers, bear witness to the potency of studenthood.

Out of respect for this artist-teacher bond, and in honor of instructors working hard to help artists tap into a higher mind relative to art and life, we offer TAPPED every year, an annual exhibit that presents paired works of art by current or former artist/teacher pairs.
