Digital Marketing Day 2024 — bursaries now available

Thanks to support from organisations across the sector, there are 20 bursaries available for Digital Marketing Day 2024, brought to you by the Arts Marketing Association.

These bursaries cover the full delegate cost of a place at Digital Marketing Day, plus some of the bursaries also include additional support for travel and accommodation.

Eligibility: You must work at a UK museum, gallery and/or historic place

Princess Alexandra Ward Commission at Royal Brompton Hospital

rb&hArts is pleased to offer a commission to an artist to create a series of artworks for five side rooms in the Princess Alexandra Ward, Royal Brompton Hospital. The side rooms are used to care for patients recovering from cardio-thoracic surgery. The commission will result in a series of works adhered to the wall (digital wallpaper/ vinyls), and possibly ceilings.

Eligibility: Open to all Visual Artists that can work in London

What you get: The commission for the whole project is £5,000 incl. VAT, not including manufacturing costs.

Call For Art: Rubbish Remix

The Rubbish Remix Show is a vibrant celebration of creativity and sustainability, showcasing artworks made from at least 70% reused materials. For example, an artist might create a vase using styrofoam and newspaper, incorporating a tufted exterior using new yarns. This event encourages Arroyo Arts Collective members to repurpose discarded items into new, imaginative creations, demonstrating the beauty and potential of what others might consider trash.

Contemporary Art Society is hiring a Curator of Digital

The Curator of Digital will lead the development of our online content, including all social media channels and the website, in support of our strategic objectives. This role will develop partnerships and work with the curatorial team on commissioning informed, authoritative content that brings the stories behind the artworks to life for a professional as well as a general audience. The post holder will be able to thrive in a varied and busy role and will be confident in navigating social media channels, technical website management, and developing engaging content that resonates with our audiences.

Eligibility: Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing successful digital strategies to drive online growth for organisations via their website, social media channels, using data and creative problem-solving to improve the overall customer experience. We seek an engaging public performance that will ignite the Richmond Arts and Ideas Festival. UK-based dance collectives, artists, and companies are invited to apply for our new Dance Commission. Adaptations - Artquest Professional Development England

Adaptations is a practice development award of £2000 for an artist to trial new ways of working. Artists apply with an idea to make their practice more economically sustainable. This might include finding new ways to earn money from your practice or developing ways to make money indirectly that also feeds your practice creatively. The important thing is that the award is intended to support new approaches to sustaining your career as an artist

Eligibility: Applications are open to visual artists over the age of 18, working in any medium, based anywhere in England outside of London and moved there since March 2020.

What you get: One awards of £2000 will be made and the selected artists will work alongside a researcher, acting as an informal mentor and critical friend, to help develop their ideas and produce insight for Artquest.

Casting a Spell: SomoS Arts Call for Proposals

SomoS Arts, in collaboration with curator Arianna Forte, invites submissions for our exhibition "Casting a Spell in Computational Regimes: Ritual Practices for a Trans-Feminist Counter-Apocalypse." Art Writing Commissions with Multistory: Call for Artists from Sandwell & Black Country 

The second issue of The Printing Room invites emerging Sandwell & Black Country artists to propose a piece of experimental writing, criticism, or fiction that explore pluralistic and multivocal perspectives on the climate crisis; Black Country ecologies; multispecies perspectives; plant systems; queer ecology; land activism; unloved spaces or ‘edgelands’ reclaimed.

Eligibility: We are accepting proposals from emerging artists currently based in Sandwell and the Black Country only. Sandwell is: Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich; the wider Black Country is: Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall.

What you get: Selected artists will receive a £250 fee and editorial support from Multistory. The yearly opportunity is supported through a writing masterclass and crit led by a guest mentor; for this year’s programme we’ve invited Cathy Wade.

Calling All Filmmakers: Submit Your Work to the Dreamy Place Festival 2024

We’re seeking innovative film and video projects that push boundaries and tell unique stories. Whether you’re a local talent from Sussex (East Sussex, West Sussex, or Brighton & Hove) looking to share your voice with your community and beyond, or an LGBTQIA+ artist from the UK or internationally with a fresh perspective, we want to hear from you. We offer two opportunities: one for Sussex-based filmmakers to engage with their local and broader audiences, and another for LGBTQIA+ artists to showcase their work on an inclusive global stage.

Eligibility: Filmmakers and artists working with moving image can apply. Sussex-based artists & filmmakers must be based in East/West Sussex incl Brighton & Hove. LGBTQIA+ artists and filmmakers can be UK-based and international.

Applications are now open for 2025 Guggenheim Fellowships

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation offers fellowships to exceptional individuals in pursuit of scholarship in any field of knowledge and creation in any art form, under the freest possible conditions. Each year, the Guggenheim Foundation awards approximately 175 fellowships to individuals making their mark in the social sciences, the natural sciences, the humanities, and the creative arts. Some notable early Fellows include Rachel Carson, James Baldwin, Martha Graham, and Linus Pauling.

Eligibility: All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada at the time of application. Guggenheim Fellowships are not open to students (undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate).

What you get: The purpose of the Guggenheim Fellowship program is to provide Fellows with blocks of time in which they can work with as much creative freedom as possible. As such, grants are made freely, without any special conditions attached to them; Fellows may spend their grant funds in any manner they deem necessary to their work.

Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt 2025: Call for Applications

The Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt was founded to counteract the structural discrimination of women* visual artists in exhibitions and on the art market. It admits 15 women* visual artists per year and runs for 12 months, from the end of January to December. The programme takes place on a weekly basis, every Thursday and Friday, along with 3–4 intensive weeks.

Eligibility: We are looking forward to applications from women visual artists* of any age working in all disciplines preferably with a completed (arts) degree, or equivalent qualification with sufficient German language skills to follow discussions, contributions may be in English resident in Berlin with experience in artistic practice, specific goals and great motivation with the time and resources needed to work on concepts of communication and marketing while also working in the studio * The project is aimed at female* visual artists, i.e. all women*, including trans women as well as inter and non-binary people

What you get: The course content includes an analysis of the participant’s current position and aims in artistic practice, training in verbal and work presentation, and essential knowledge for self-employment such as tax, financing, and copyright. It also covers Berlin’s art scene through excursions, seminars, discussions, and networking opportunities. Participants will plan and realise a personal website and a catalogue brochure, culminating in a final group exhibition in autumn. The seminars are led by experienced art historians and producers, with guests including curators, gallery owners, artists, and other experts. With over 450 alumnae and an ever-growing network, Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt provides a solid foundation. It is co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund Plus) and the Federal State of Berlin, subject to approval, covering the programme costs.

Swanfall Art Annual Exhibition Open Call: Playground

Artists are invited to submit work for the Exhibition "Playground". The exhibition will take place from 3 - 6 October 2023 at Bargehouse. Bargehouse is a unique and atmospheric warehouse located in Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank. The expansive, untouched four-story warehouse, in its raw state, offers a unique backdrop for artistic and curatorial endeavours.

The exhibition will be open to the general public and collectors.

Eligibility and Selection: Artists at all stages of their careers are welcome to submit. Submissions are accepted in any medium, including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, photography, film, printmaking, installation, sculpture, and mixed media. Artists are welcome to submit their portfolios for selection. We may admit 1-3 works from one artist. A mini-series counts as one artwork.

Open Call for Artists: ‘Merely Random’ Immersive Art Exhibition, Dubai 2024

CAW MVMT invites digital artists to join the "Merely Random" exhibition at Art In Space, Dubai. This immersive exhibition celebrates the beauty of serendipitous and creative exploration. With an open theme, artists are given the freedom to submit works that capture the essence of randomness and artistic expression. The exhibition will be held from October 2024 to April 2025.

BBA's One Shot Award 2024: Your Best Shot, on Display

Whether you're an experienced photographer or a casual snap-shooter, everyone has a unique creative vision and the potential to create remarkable images. What does your best shot bring to the table? BBA is looking to award one exceptional photographer with the One Shot Award.

Eligibility: Open to anyone aged 18 and over, with one image permitted per entry. All themes, mediums, and subjects are welcome. We accept images from pure lens-based cameras, mobiles or smartphones, AI-generated images, and film, digital, and analogue photography.

What you get: Fifty selected photographers will be featured in the major BBA Photography Prize 2024 exhibition at Kühlhaus Berlin. The winner of the One Shot Award will receive a cash prize of €300 and benefit from online promotion.

'F for Fake' Exhibition with Doozy Magazine

Inspired by Orson Welles' 1973 film 'F for Fake', Doozy presents an open exhibition for artists in Bristol and beyond to exhibit at the Cube Microplex. We are interested in the potential for games of illusion and trickery that the theme 'F for Fake' affords. 'F for Fake' is ostensibly a film about art forgery, fake journalism, hoaxes, and the tender precipice of illusion and reality that straddles the fourth wall of belief/disbelief.

ISC Innovator Award 2024

The ISC Innovator Award recognizes individuals, organisations, or collectives for creative social innovation in the field of contemporary sculpture. Through the development of new ideas and work, recipients of this award improve and expand the ways that sculpture can effect change. Submissions will be reviewed by a jury of professionals in the field, who will select one final recipient and several honorable mentions.

Illumine Light Art Commission Open Call

We are excited to launch ILLUMINE, an ambitious light art commissioning opportunity for Black and POC artists. This is a positive action that recognises and responds to the lack of artist diversity at festivals of light art. The opportunity is to create a new, striking light art installation that will tour multiple light art festivals in the north of England, be seen by more than one million people, and capture the hearts and minds of audiences.

Eligibility: We invite applications from UK-based Black and POC artists who may be working in light art, other media, or other artistic practices. As this is a mid-to-large-scale commission, we expect artists to have an established professional practice with a demonstrable portfolio of previous work. This commission is not suitable for new or emerging artists.

What you get: The ILLUMINE commissioning opportunity includes an artist’s bursary of £8,000 to research, create, and present an original, exciting, and captivating proposal for a new light artwork. A projected production/creative budget of up to £70,000 is also available — full details in the link to call.

We are looking for painters for the next cohort of the Tracey Emin Artist Residency programme.

Eligibility: Painters who are talented and determined and able to move to Margate UK between April 2024 and July 2026. You should be working at a postgraduate level but do not need prior qualifications to apply. There is no upper age limit

What you get: You will receive a free studio that you can access 24/7. You will also receive free mentorship from Dame Tracey Emin and a host of visiting tutors. Your work will feature in an end-of-year show.

Deptford X Artist Weekender 2024: Call for Proposals

Open call for visual artists living or working in Deptford to send a proposal for our first Weekender, 18 to 20 October. We are looking to showcase the diversity of artists and practices based in this vibrant area. Projects can include workshops, performances, exhibitions, installations, screenings, talks, and printed media. Each successful project will have an artist’s fee of £400 and up to £400 production budget. For the upcoming issue of 87 Gallery’s online round-up publication, we’re looking for submissions of work in any medium that explores the theme SHELTER. Our Guest Editor is artist-writer Jessica El Mal. This theme is broad and we’d love to see submissions that investigate any aspect of the following subjects: home, refuge, retreat, dwellings, exile - displacement, migration, belonging(s), politics of housing, archaeology, globalisation.

Anonymous Drawings: Global Call for Work

Anonymous Drawings is a curated exhibition for drawings preceded by an open call for international submissions: No fees, no CV's, no portfolios – just drawings. The works will be presented with no mention of authorship or title. The artist's identity is revealed only after the work is sold: Sold drawings will be taken right off the wall and the empty space left behind will be marked with the artist‘s full name and place of origin.

Eligibility: Everyone is eligible.

What you get: The drawings are sold at a symbolic price of 250€ each. The artists will receive 200€ per sale, the remaining 50€ will be used to realise the open calls and the exhibitions. The identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is sold

British Ceramics Biennial: Apply for Award 2025

We’re calling artists to submit proposals to Award, our headline exhibition, for our 2025 Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent. Award celebrates the vitality of contemporary ceramics practice in the UK. Access support is available to anyone who feels they face barriers in making an application.

Eligibility: Artists must be based in the UK between September 2022 and August 2025; Have worked professionally as an individual artist or collective since September 2022. Proposed work must use clay as the primary medium and be based on the exploration of ceramic processes

What you get: 10 Award artists will be selected, and each artist will receive £1,000 towards the preparation and exhibition of their work as part of the Award exhibition at the 2025 Biennial. Once the Biennial is open to the public, the selection panel will meet again to select one artist who wins the BCB Award prize of £10,000 and an invitation to exhibit at BCB 2027.

The Art Trolley: Residency with Newcastle Hospitals Charity

Newcastle Hospitals Charity Arts Programme is developing a range of new Hospital Arts Trolleys to support the facilitation of creative participatory and engagement activities for patients across Newcastle Hospitals. We are seeking an Artist in Residence to work alongside patients and staff to develop a new Art Trolley and lead an artist-led engagement programme across Newcastle Hospital wards (at RVI and the Freeman Hospital) over the course of 2025-26.

Eligibility: Successful candidates must have an interest in working in the areas of creative health and arts & wellbeing. They should have the belief that arts and creativity can have positive impacts on health, and wellbeing and change lives. They are required prior experience in developing and delivering participatory activities, projects, and/or workshops. Apply for Digital Tech-Lab Facilitator Role

We’re seeking artists/creative technologists to prepare and facilitate a digital skills-building Tech-Lab for professional and non-professional artists. The Tech-Labs will be toured over several weeks across four locations in the North, as part of FutureEverything’s new creative development programme, PROTO.

Eligibility: Artist/creative technologists working in the North and able to travel to PROTO locations

What you get: The fee for Tech-Lab planning and delivery is £400 per Tech-Lab, a total of £1,600 for delivery across the four regions. There are additional resources to support the facilitation of the Tech-Lab, if required.

East London Art Prize 2024

The East London Art Prize celebrates and promotes the incredible talent and diversity of art made in east London. The winner receives a career-changing prize of £15,000 and a solo exhibition at our Nunnery Gallery, with the runner-up prize receiving a year’s free studio space with Bow Arts.

Eligibility: The prize is open to any artist living or working within an ‘E’ postcode, encompassing E1-E20, SE1-SE28 and EC1-EC4. Submitting artists should hold an arts degree, equivalent arts qualification, or be able to show demonstrable commitment to their artistic practice.

What you get: Twelve artists will be selected for the shortlist exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery and receive a year of mentorship. First prize is a £15,000 cash prize and a solo exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery. Second prize is a year’s free studio space at one of Bow Arts’ studio sites.

ING Discerning Eye Exhibition 2024 now calling for entries

The ING Discerning Eye exhibition announces its 2024 call for entries. Sponsored by global bank ING, the open exhibition allows artists to show their work to six distinguished selectors, exhibit in central London and win prizes.

Eligibility: The call is open to UK-based artists. The only limits for artworks are their size, a maximum of 50 centimeters including frame, and that all works must be available for sale. All styles and media are welcome including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, film, textile, and more.

What you get: Exhibition opportunity at the Mall Galleries in London, a virtual exhibition, and prizes totaling over £12,000. The prizes include the ING Purchase Prize, worth £5,000.

Submissions for the New Artist Fair 2024 are now open! This three-day event at The Truman Brewery in September 2024 will showcase the best emerging artists creating work today.

Eligibility: There are no age or medium restrictions, but you should be seeking to gain exposure and experience from exhibiting at a fair.

Taber Art Gallery calls for artwork submissions

Taber Art Gallery, in partnership with the Thrive Center, at Holyoke Community College is seeking submissions for THRIVE: Beyond Surviving, on view October 31 - December 20, 2024. Artists are encouraged to enter work that considers the systemic, communal, and/or individual obstacles and barriers to survival. They are invited to reflect what surviving means, how we as humans can continue to dream, push, and hope for more than the minimum, and the struggle of exhaustion vs. the ability to rest.

Eligibility: This exhibition is open to any media. Artists must be over 18 and not currently enrolled in an undergraduate program. All work must be original. Collaborations are accepted. Any media is accepted.

£4,000 Colouring the Castle Digital Commission

LGBTQIA+ artist wanted to work with the community to produce a new digital artwork for Dreamy Place & Bright Winter Nights. Junction Arts and videoclub are seeking an artist to create new digital artwork with the LGBTQIA+ community in and around Chesterfield, NE Derbyshire, to be projected onto Bolsover Castle on 29th November.

The theme of the project is "community voice" - the piece needs to be a creative interpretation of our often unheard communities. The artist will work with participants over four workshops to create new work and incorporate these creations into one or more designs.

Eligibility: Artists based in England with experience working with communities and creating digital artwork.

What You Get: You will receive £4,000 to deliver four workshops, produce the final artwork for projection, and support the installation of the artwork. There is a separate budget for production for the projection/installation and for workshop materials, to be discussed upon appointment. Artwork Commission at Techspace’s New Office Building

We are excited to announce an open call for emerging artists to submit proposals for a unique opportunity to create a piece of artwork for the lobby of our new office building, which is located in the historically significant site of a former gin distillery in Clerkenwell. This project aims to celebrate the rich heritage of the building and integrate it into the contemporary design of our workspace. We invite artists to interpret this theme through their unique lens, incorporating elements of the gin-making process, historical references, or the cultural impact of gin.

What you get: The selected artist will receive a commission ranging between £500-£1000 (subject to size and medium) for the creation and installation of the artwork. Typa Residency 2025: Calling Nordic and Baltic Artists

Our unique residency will offer the opportunity to work within the TYPA Paper and Printmaking Centre, and the cultural opportunities of the city of Tartu. We are looking for artists to bring fresh perspectives and ways of working with our equipment. We are looking for both experienced printmakers and artists with their practices, whether that be new media, sculpture, audio-artists, painters etc.

Eligibility: Artists must be resident in one of the Nordic Countries (Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Åland) or the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) - the invited artist should have a permanent address in one of these countries. However, it is not necessary for the invited artists to have Nordic or Baltic nationality. We are looking for artists who have at least 5 years of professional experience.

What you get: For all residencies, TYPA will pay for accommodation, studio usage, and a storage shelf, access to our equipment, technical support, exhibition space, promotion of their practice and outcome, support in finding funding. Nordic and Baltic Artists will also receive a grant of 1500€ for their residency period, as well as a materials fee up to 600€, and travel costs covered up to 350€ (green travel choices are favoured).

Memorial Gestures - Remote Artist Residency Programme 2024/25

Memorial Gestures is a remote residency programme for artistic research into Holocaust Centre North’s Archive. Over the course of 7 months artists are invited to explore our collection and respond to materials and themes they feel have contemporary relevance.

Are you interested in working with archives as part of your creative practice? Are you interested in how artistic practices can create spaces for critical exploration and nuanced conversations around current and past events? Do you want to develop new ways of using local and lesser-known stories to share the global history of the Holocaust? Do you work with difficult histories and would like to be supported in a collective learning environment?

Holocaust Centre North is an exhibition, archive and learning centre based at the University of Huddersfield. Our archive preserves the stories of survivors and refugees of Nazi persecution who made new lives in the North of England. In total our archive encompasses over 6000 items donated by 150+ families, including photographs, legal documents, letters, and oral & video testimony. Our educational, academic and artistic research and programming is shaped by a community-led
approach, working in dialogue with survivors and their descendants.

Eligibility: Open to all artists, including international, but we encourage applications from emerging artists based in the North of England.

What you get: Residencies are paid at £4800 in artists fees, with an additional £1000 for material costs and £500 in research travel.

Call for Artist Programmer to join the Market Gallery Committee

Market Gallery is looking for an Artist Programmer to join our committee in October 2024. This is a two-year position that offers an opportunity to develop research interests and programme collaboratively in a non-hierarchical environment. Committee members are responsible for all aspects of the daily running of the organisation alongside the Programme Administrator, and lead on decision making about the future of the gallery. The committee focus includes programming and research, archiving, event organisation and delivery, marketing and outreach, artist liaison and reporting.

Eligibility: Committee members are expected to have an interest in contemporary art and must be based in Glasgow. Applicants in full-time education will not be considered. Applicants are not required to have an art school background or any other formal qualifications.

What you get: Committee members are remunerated with a stipend of £472 per month on a freelance basis. This amount is reviewed yearly. The Committee is also supported in research and professional development, where a small budget is available for short-term mentorship, courses, books, etc. There will also be a partially or fully funded research trip during your committeeship.

Telling Our Stories, Finding Our Roots: Commission Opportunity for Devon-based Artist

An exciting opportunity for a Devon-based, global majority artist to work with Devon Development Education on their Telling Our Stories, Finding Our Roots multicultural heritage project. We’re seeking a dynamic artist to work with our project coordinator and partners at Offwell School, Honiton Library, and the Thelma Hulbert Gallery. The artist’s role is to creatively engage young people through workshop activities, inspired by our project stories to create an art piece that will be included in the final project exhibition at the end of the year.

Eligibility: You must identify as having a global majority heritage, and live in Devon. You must have experience working with young people aged 4 – 12 years, and have an enhanced DBS and barred list check to work with children.

What you get: This is a legacy project that works to engage the Honiton community with its multicultural heritage past and present. Having successfully secured funding over the last 12 years to run 6 projects like this one across Devon, interest in the project stories continues to grow through its website, social media, printed publicity, and exhibitions. The artist will ‘be a part of the story for a more inclusive future’ working closely with all our project partners.
