Gallery Renaissance Presents: Symbols of Creation 1/2

Symbols of Creation is an innovative initiative by Gallery Renaissance that challenges young artists to explore and reinterpret the representations of the forces of procreation. Such images became taboo when Christianity and Islam became dominant but the underlying ideas, far from being eliminated, merely metamorphosed in unaccountable ways. Our objective is to revisit these questions and to obtain a fresh perspective through the eyes of young artists.

Massee Arts Grant

Through the Massee Arts Grant, the British Mycological Society supports arts projects that raise awareness and celebrate fungi. We recognise that art, in all its forms, provides a powerful route through which we can attract new audiences, provoke discussion and stimulate interest in mycology.

Eligibility: Artists from all disciplines who can help us encourage all sectors of society to engage with and learn about the world of fungi are eligible to apply.

Open Call for the exhibition "Matrix-Ost"

Inspired by the critical discourse surrounding Eurocentrism and the unique cultural identity of Eastern Europe, ""Matrix-Ost"" aims to recontextualize the visual art of Eastern Europe within a broader historical and political framework. The exhibition will serve as a platform for dialogue, reflection, and rediscovery of the multifaceted artistic traditions that emerged from the Eastern Bloc.

This project seeks to challenge such narratives by highlighting the diversity and richness of Eastern European art, often overshadowed by the homogenizing forces of post-1989 cultural integration.

BlackInk Launchpad 2025: Call for Commissions

Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage are looking for emerging Black female artists based in the UK. Launchpad is an initiative that works across all art forms to mentor and share their ideas and showcase their work as part of BlackInk, a magazine focusing on Black arts, heritage and cultural politics published each year for Black History Month. For Launchpad 2025, the commission seeks to support artists to navigate multifaceted ways of working by developing a project that translates across a print magazine and online content.

Eligibility: Independent artists from the African, African Caribbean and Latin American Diaspora and based in the UK (including England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and British Isles). Serendipity are looking for proposals that would be suitable for publication in a print magazine but also can be creatively adapted for online formats.

What you get: Launchpad is offering artists a feature as part of BlackInk Issue 6 (published in October 2025) and online, a £750 fee, support and mentorship, opportunities to build industry networks, and consideration for future opportunities.

Anomalous Mathematical Patterns Competition

The "Anomalous Mathematical Patterns", international sci-art competition organised by the Isaac Newton Institute, UK invites all artists worldwide who are 18 years old or older to participate. The entry must be connected to the mathematical themes as described on the contest website. There are three competition categories: Photograph, painting, film, print, animation; Textile, sculpture or other medium; AI and computer-generated art.

Eligibility: The contest is open to artists who are 18 years old or older.

What you get: The contest features multiple awards: £750 each for the top entries in photography, painting, print, textile, sculpture, and computer-generated art. Additionally, each category has a £300 runner-up and £150 honourable mention. Public voting will award a £750 People’s Choice Prize, and a £500 Programme Participants' Choice Award will be selected by participants from the 30 finalists.

Women in Art Fair Prize

Founded in 2023, Women in Art Fair is dedicated to redressing the gender imbalance in the art industry. This year the Fair is launching the Women in Art Fair prize to honour three women artists whom the jury believe show exceptional talent. Cash prizes of £1500, £750 and £400 will be awarded to support the winning artists' ongoing practice. Women artists and those identifying as women who enter work via the

Fair's open call will automatically be entered for the prize as well. The Fair will take place at gallery@oxo on London's South Bank.

FLAMIN Productions Grant

FLAMIN Productions is now open for applications until 31 March 2025.

Part of Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), FLAMIN Productions aims to support the most exciting, innovative and challenging moving image projects with development and production finance. In 2025, FLAMIN Productions will be investing production funding through an award of £40,000 for one project.

Eligibility: Applicants who have been making moving image work and practicing professionally within the art world for over five years since graduation or equivalent. (Applicants do not need to have engaged in higher education to be eligible for the programme). Applicants with a track record of producing moving image work that has been exhibited or distributed and reached significant audiences. Applicants whose main address is in England. Applicants cannot be students at the time of applying and not intending to be students during the development and production period (including full-time and part-time education and PhD research). Projects must be at concept stage or in development (the fund is not suitable for production-ready projects or projects part-way through production). Note: FLAMIN Productions supports visual artists, who have chosen film as their medium, to make new moving image artworks. Though these creative works may be shown in a variety of contexts, including cinemas, the scheme does not support mainstream or genre-led film-making. Film London delivers other commissioning and support schemes for feature film and short film and these may be more appropriate for some projects. Modern Painters, New Decorators: Exhibition Opportunity

Modern Painters, New Decorators are pleased to invite proposals from artists, based in the UK, from Africa or the African Diaspora for an exhibition commission. This is an opportunity for an artist to realise a project with the support of Modern Painters, New Decorators as part of our new exhibition programme focusing on folk cultures and ecology. The project will be the very first exhibition presented in our new gallery space and arts venue in Loughborough, East Midlands, opening in September 2025.

ARTIST COMMISSION: 'Lighting up the Lea' Cabinet of Curiosity No.2 2025

The second in a series of three works funded by the Heritage fund, Cody Dock will commission an artist or creative collective to design a public work to illustrate the rich and endless history of the Lower Lea River, focusing particularly Pre- industrial period.

We expect the artist to take inspiration from the dockside carts that vendors used to sell their wares in London’s docklands, to produce a publicly engaging, outdoor work that will be moveable around our site.

Eligibility: Any individual artist or collective. Applications from Newham will instantly be added to the shortlist.

What you get: £5400 fee, including production budget. Support through R&D and production processes as well as marketing once work is completed. The work will be revealed on 21st September 2025 and will remain as a permanement exhibition on our site.

Magmart Festival Competition 14th Edition

Magmart | video under volcano is an international videoart festival, which over the years has seen the participation of more than 1400 artists from +80 different countries, with thousand submitted videos.

The Festival is open to all international videoartists. Participation is free. Between all submitted video, will be done a final selection based on vote of a Jury composed by experts. The Social Art Award 2025

The Social Art Award 2025, an initiative started by the Institute for Art and Innovation (IFAI), invites artists from around the globe to submit their visionary works under the theme: “Planetary Healing – Blue Tribes for Ocean Health.” This year, we focus on the urgent need for ocean restoration, biodiversity protection, and fostering harmony between humans and other species. We encourage submissions that showcase innovative ideas, compelling narratives, and creative visions to inspire coexistence and planetary resilience.

Eligibility: The Award is open to anyone aged 18 years and over. There are no restrictions based on gender, age, training, or nationality.

What you get: The jury selects the Top 100 submissions, which will be published in the official Social Art Award 2025 Book. From the 12 finalists, the jury will select the 3 winning artists, honoring their exceptional contributions to this year’s theme. The first winner will receive a 1,000 EUR prize. The work of the 3 winning artists will be highlighted through interviews and showcased at events such as BitBasel, with additional opportunities being explored, including touring exhibitions like COP 30 in Belém, Brazil.

Profiles Issue 4 - Calls for portraiture

Profiles seeks portraiture across all visual media for the fourth issue of our literary and vis-arts journal. We’re open to experimental twists on the definition of ‘portrait’ — we want to see a vibrant personality, however you’ve captured it. Selected artworks will appear in print and be featured in our exhibition at the James Joyce Centre in Dublin, Ireland, in November 2025.

Profiles is an independent journal dedicated to character studies and portraiture, supported by Dublin City Council. We feature work by writers, translators and artists living in Ireland and abroad.

Eligibility: No specific requirements for the artists - their submission must be a portrait and it must be printable (so no moving images or sculptures)

Somerset Artist Residency 2025

East Quay is pleased to offer a 5-week residency to a Somerset-based artist, in our sought-after Studio 10 Project Space here at East Quay. The residency will run as part of our contribution to this year’s Somerset Arts Week’s Open Studios Festival, which will take place between Saturday 13 - Sunday 28 September 2025. We are accepting applications from artists working in all mediums. The residency dates are Saturday 30 August - Sunday 5 October 2025 inclusively.

We’re inviting the public to submit their brightest idea for an artwork to be produced and exhibited at Lumiere 2025. You don’t need to be a practising artist or have any previous experience to apply to BRILLIANT, you just need a BRILLIANT idea. BRILLIANT is a national commissioning scheme aimed at encouraging creativity across the UK as well as highlighting brilliant ideas from people living in or originally from the North East.

OPEN CALL : Equiano Family Window Commission

The Equiano Family Project at St Andrew’s Church, Chesterton, Cambridge, are seeking an artist to design a new Stained Glass Window to commemorate the celebrated author and abolitionist Olaudah Equiano (1745-1797) and his family.

The Equiano Family Project is an arts, education and cultural initiative based at St Andrew’s Church, designed to promote awareness and reflection on the Equiano family story.

This is an exciting artistic opportunity to engage with all that the Equiano family story embodies, and contributes to British and Black transatlantic history.

John Moores Painting Prize 2025 Call for Entries open now

John Moores Painting Prize 2025 is open to all UK artists – the undiscovered, emerging or established – working with paint. JMPP25 is judged anonymously by a jury of art world and creative industry figures. They will select the prize-winners and the exhibiting works in the JMPP25 exhibition at Walker Art Gallery, which opens in September 2025.

Eligibility: John Moores Painting Prize 2025 is open to artists – working with paint - aged 18 years or above,  who live in the UK or are UK-based (this includes England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. It does not include the Republic of Ireland).

SciArt Residency

In collaboration with the Collaborative Research Centre ISOQUANT at Heidelberg University and the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen, Art Hub Copenhagen invites artists to apply for a six-month residency exchange programme that brings together artists and quantum physicists. Deadline for applications is Wednesday 26 March 2025.

Eligibility: The residency is open to professional artists from all disciplines and practices. However, due to visa regulations and the duration of the residency, only artists from an EU/EØS country are eligible to apply.

What you get:

Stipend: Artists will receive a monthly stipend (2.000€) to cover living expenses during the residency period (first 6 months of the program). If childcare is needed, we offer access to facilities at Heidelberg University.

Accommodation: Art Hub Copenhagen will facilitate finding a rented room/apartment practically located in Copenhagen and cover the costs. The CRC ISOQUANT will offer and cover costs for accommodation in a fully equipped apartment centrally located in Heidelberg.

Workspace: Art Hub Copenhagen will offer a studio and access to workshops, including metal, wood, printing, assembly, and digital workshop facilities. Moreover, Art Hub Copenhagen will assist in finding other relevant production facilities if needed. The CRC ISOQUANT will grant full access to all university research facilities, laboratories, and a shared office space. Heidelberg University will provide working facilities specific to the hosting institutes.

Travel: The programme covers round-trip travel between Copenhagen and Heidelberg, with an emphasis on eco-friendly options such as train travel. Additionally, local commuting in Heidelberg and Copenhagen will be facilitated and covered by ISOQUANT and Art Hub, respectively. Events and Public

Presentation: Art Hub Copenhagen and ISOQUANT will take full responsibility for organizing and funding events during the residency, such as artist talks, as well as the final public presentations of the works in Copenhagen and Heidelberg. This includes covering the costs of supplies and materials for the artworks (up to 5.000 €), an exhibition fee of 2.500 € per exhibition, and transportation costs for both the artworks and the artists. Additionally, exhibition-related costs, such as room rental and materials, will be covered (up to 2.500 € per exhibition).

Living Without Leaving? The The Perspective of Adriatic-Ionian Young Artists - OPEN CALL

‘Living Without Leaving?’ is an art competition inviting young artists (18-35) from the Adriatic-Ionian region to reflect on the right to stay, migration, identity, and belonging. Selected artworks will be part of a touring exhibition across Belgium, Greece, Albania, and North Macedonia in 2025.

The initiative is part of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).

Zenjob “History Wall” - €4,000 Art Commission

Zenjob, in partnership with ArtRabbit, is looking to commission a new artwork that embodies the company's history, mission, and ethos, to be installed at their headquarters in Berlin. This is the first commission of its kind for Zenjob, who are excited to commission an emerging artist, creator, illustrator, or muralist for this project, thereby creating something memorable for the company and its team while supporting the creator's professional career in the arts.

For this commission, broadly titled "History Wall," the theme is deeply linked to the company's history, ethos, and mission. Source material about Zenjob is available via links below to enable research and inform your proposal/sketch. The style is entirely up to you; the team is open to any creative direction that can visually express their history and mission, from collage to comic, illustration to fully representative art, whether painted onsite or as a triptych. We welcome your suggestions.

Objective

The artwork should creatively represent the timeline and key achievements of Zenjob, integrating elements that reflect the company’s ethos and spirit. The work can be a mural, illustration, comic strip, collage, mixed media, the team is open to your ideas.

Production and Installation Requirements

Artists are encouraged to propose innovative approaches and concepts that align with the brief. You are encouraged to bring the brief to life as you see fit. However, the following installation requirements are important to consider:

What you get: EUR 4,000 art commission to cover artist fees, materials, and all direct costs associated with the commission. Your work will then be installed in Zenjob's headquarters in Berlin, and will remain in private collection.

The completed artwork will be owned by Zenjob. However, the artist retains the right to display the work in their portfolio and for promotional purposes.

Krio Collective Exhibition Opportunity

I’m seeking four UK-based creatives of Sierra Leonean heritage (visual artists, poets, musicians) to join Krio Collective, an Arts Council England-funded project exploring identity, migration, and African influence on British culture. Participants will engage in monthly group discussions, studio visits, and a group exhibition at The London Lighthouse Gallery in late 2025. A £2,000 fee will be paid to each artist. Fluency in Krio is preferred but not essential.

Francis Crick Institute Commission: OPEN CALL for Artists with a Participatory Practice

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical research Institution focused on discovery to improve disease treatment, diagnosis, and prevention. Committed to open science, it engages the public through exhibitions at its Manby Gallery, fostering dialogue between scientists and audiences. The upcoming exhibition, based on research from the Skoglund Lab, explores ancient human DNA, revealing insights into evolution, archaeology, and history—sometimes challenging prior beliefs. A participatory project will add inclusive, contemporary perspectives to the exhibition.

Eligibility: An artist/s, who is able to work in London, with a community or participatory practice who wants to lead on a participatory project exploring what cutting-edge genetics research can and can’t reveal about the history of Britain and the connection of people across thousands of years.

The theme for the Arts Annual 2025 will be Artist as Activist and we will request work that reflects artistic thoughts and responses to that concept. Artist as Activist is an artist who harnesses the power of creativity to inspire social and political action. Unlike traditional activism that primarily uses direct action or advocacy, artists engage in activism through various forms. In this case visual art. They use their work to challenge norms, raise awareness about issues, and inspire audiences to think critically about the world around them.

What you get: Selected artists will have their work displayed at the Rowan Art Gallery and Museum as part of the 2025 NJ Arts Annual. Selected artists will receive a stipend for participation in the exhibition of $500 contingent on timely submission of contractual forms and agreements. Artists are invited to sell their work. All sales negotiations are between the artists and potential buyers. An exhibition catalogue illustrating work by each artist and a directory of the artists represented will be produced. It will be available for all participating artists at Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum. Apollo Painting School - Residency

An intensive 3-month summer programme designed for UK based emerging artists with a painting practice. The programme will be accessible by open call and applications will be reviewed by a judging panel of internationally acclaimed artists and educators.

Eligibility: any self-identifying emerging artist with a painting practice based in the UK. Applications will not be accepted by artists represented by, or anticipating representation by commercial galleries or preparing for a solo exhibition during the duration of the programme. Applicants are welcome from different backgrounds and experience levels. Although there are no educational prerequisites to participate in the programme, applicants must demonstrate in the application that they have been developing a painting practice for at least 3 years.All participants must be 21 years of age by the start of the programme and have a valid passport.

Hotel Generation mentors the next generation of UK digital artists during the critical early stages of their careers in the arts. The development programme selects four young digital artists and pairs them with a mentor for online curatorial guidance as they develop an exhibition proposal for arebyte’s exhibition space. This skills-focused programme culminates in a solo exhibition at arebyte Gallery for one of the four participants, selected by a panel of leading experts from the new media art sector.

The New English Art Club Open Call 2025

The New English Art Club (NEAC) invites artists worldwide, aged 18 and over, to submit artwork for the NEAC Annual Exhibition 2025 at Mall Galleries. Selected artists will have their work exhibited in a prestigious showcase at Mall Galleries, London, with potential for sales and commissions.

Eligibility: Artists may enter a maximum of six works each, from which up to three works per artist may be selected. Works should not be larger than 2.4m along the longest dimension. Work must have been completed in the last two years and must not have been exhibited in London previously.

Acceptable media include paintings, drawings, and original framed prints (excluding photography). Note that sculpture is not admissible.

MUSEC Photography Open Call UP25

7th Puchi Award: Call for Bold and Unique Comic & Illustrated Book Projects

The Puchi Award is open to the most unique book proposals in the fields of comics and illustrated books, as well as hybrid projects. The Puchi Award has launched its next call for applications with a renewed focus on graphic content and a biennial schedule. The financial prize has also been increased to €10,000. The award seeks audacious projects with a distinct personality and clear artistic interest, where images play a central role—never merely an accessory or complement—in the narrative or exhibition development of the work.

Eligibility: Any natural person of legal age, of any nationality, with an original and unpublished work, may participate.

Jacob Fabrikant Creative Fellowship in Health Humanities

The Jacob Fabrikant Creative Fellowship invites an artist or writer to work with the members and students of the Centre for Health Humanities to develop their creative practice on a theme related to the health humanities.

This year we are offering one grant of £5,000 to work on a project linked to one of our core research themes. The appointed Fellows will be asked to plan and deliver at least two events aimed at staff or students at UCL, and, as appropriate, a wider public. These could be seminars, creative workshops or any other encounter that allows people to collaborate.

Our exhibitions have increasingly included opportunities for readings, screenings, and performances, typically held within the exhibition spaces. We've opened this dedicated call to connect with more musicians, poets, and filmmakers who are interested in being part of upcoming programs. We also love “debuting” work that artists make outside their primary discipline—projects that haven’t settled into a classification yet, that the artist hasn’t shared before or hasn’t found the right context for presenting.

Eligibility: Musicians, writers, filmmakers, or other multidisciplinary artist located within the U.S., above the age of 18. Open to emerging and established artists.

Jackson's Art Prize 2025

Jackson’s Art Prize is open for entries for the tenth year, and invites artists working in painting, drawing, and printmaking, of all ages and abilities, to enter. Enter before the 25th February 2025.

There are 23 awards to be won, offering a range of prizes including art materials provided by trusted brands, inclusion in two London exhibitions, and a First Prize of £6,000 plus £2,000 in Jackson’s art materials. This year’s Guest Judges are Anne Rothenstein, Anita Klein, Péjú Oshin, Joshua Donkor, Hugo Barclay, and Andrew Torr.

Eligibility: The competition is open internationally, to artists working in painting, drawing, and printmaking in any subject matter.
