Trauma and the Environment Call for submissions: Tendrils, an art & literary journal, USA

Tendrils Journal is seeking submissions of visual art and short-form literature for its edition “Trauma and the Environment.” As an art & literary publication, we’re dedicated to sparking conversations around trauma and opening pathways for healing.

The second edition of Tendrils will explore the profound relationships between trauma and the natural and built environment; how processes of growth, decay, and change, mirrors and shapes our individual and collective experiences.

We invite creators to interpret this theme in their own way––whether conceptually, through abstraction, realism, or any form in between. We’re interested in thoughtful, bold, and distinctive voices that contribute fresh and meaningful perspectives to the topic.

Your work:

  • Art submissions can be in any medium or size

  • For literature, submit short-form work (up to 1,000 words) such as poetry or short stories. We will consider excerpts if you have a long-form work that aligns with the themes.

Présentation

La Ville de Rennes lance une consultation portant sur la réalisation d’une œuvre d’art au sein du nouveau bâtiment du Conservatoire de Rennes. Inauguré en octobre 2021, le nouveau bâtiment pour le Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Rennes s’inscrit en complémentarité avec le bâtiment historique du site Hoche et dans lequel les trois disciplines Danse, Théâtre et Musique seront réunies.

L’objectif est à la fois de faire dialoguer l’art contemporain avec l’architecture et de faire co-exister une œuvre originale issue du domaine des arts plastiques avec les usages du conservatoire.

Pour ce faire, la Ville de Rennes souhaite confier la conception, la réalisation, le transport et l’installation de l’œuvre à un artiste contemporain. Le lauréat de la commande sera sélectionné par le comité artistique constitué par la Ville de Rennes et à l’issue d’un processus de sélection en 2 phases (cf. règlement de la consultation).

La nature de l’œuvre reste libre et ouverte à toutes les formes et supports qui s’inscrivent dans le domaine des arts plastiques.

La Ville de Rennes développe depuis plusieurs années une politique affirmée de soutien à la création artistique (spectacle vivant, arts plastiques…), mais aussi à la protection et à la valorisation du patrimoine matériel et immatériel. Rennes est reconnue au niveau national pour son engagement en faveur des arts visuels : exemplarité de son dispositif de mise à disposition d’ateliers d’artistes et de sa politique de Commande publique d’œuvres et de 1% artistiques depuis la fin des années 1970.




Modalités de candidature

Les candidats devront dans un premier temps constituer un dossier de candidature comprenant :

  • Une lettre de candidature dûment motivée (1 page A4 conseillée) indiquant les orientations que le candidat donnerait à son projet,
  • Un dossier artistique avec curriculum vitæ détaillé et un portfolio permettant d’établir la capacité du candidat à exécuter la commande, ainsi que tous les supports permettant une bonne appréhension du travail de l’artiste (catalogues, textes critiques, visuels). Les artistes devront de préférence mettre en évidence des réalisations en art public.
  • Une attestation justifiant d’une pratique artistique professionnelle (attestation Maison des Artistes, AGESSA ou URSSAF Limousin et n° de SIRET ou équivalents).

S’il s’agit de la candidature d’un groupement, le dossier comportera obligatoirement la lettre de candidature DC1 complétée, datée et signée. Dans ce cas, chaque co-traitant produit le ou les curriculum vitae des intervenants et une présentation de ses projets

Depuis 2023, le CEAAC propose une résidence de recherche et création de deux mois à Barcelone en partenariat avec Hangar et le collectif Lumbung Press à destination des artistes-auteur·ices témoignant d’un intérêt pour les pratiques éditoriales et les communs.

L’appel s’adresse aux artistes-auteur·rices en début/milieu de carrière, sans critère d’âge ni de nationalité pouvant justifier d’un lien avec la région Grand Est.

Centre d’art contemporain d’intérêt national, le CEAAC soutient, produit et valorise la création contemporaine auprès de tous les publics depuis 1987. Son implantation au carrefour de l’Europe est au coeur de son projet artistique et culturel qui croise des réflexions autour des différents régimes de circulation des images, du vernaculaire et de la santé publique.
Le CEAAC développe des résidences d’artistes et de chercheur·euses avec un large réseau institutionnel et culturel européen, qui comprend des partenaires en Allemagne (basis e.V., Francfort), en Espagne (Hangar avec Lumbung Press, Barcelone), en Hongrie (Budapest Gallery), en Italie (IUNO, Rome) et en République tchèque (MeetFactory et l’Institut français de Prague).




Modalités de candidature

Outre l’évaluation du parcours professionnel de l’artiste, une attention particulière sera portée à la qualité du projet proposé et à sa faisabilité, à la prise en compte et compréhension du contexte de recherche, au protocole de travail envisagé ainsi qu’à la nécessité d’un temps de résidence dans la ville choisie.

Le jury est composé de représentant·es du CEAAC, de Hangar et de Lumbung Press. Il étudiera individuellement les dossiers de candidature.

Pour candidater :

  • Formulaire à remplir en français
  • Dossier en anglais (pour les juré·es anglophones) comprenant, en un seul fichier au format PDF (inférieur à 10 Mo) :
  1. un curriculum vitae ;
  2. un portfolio / dossier artistique, comprenant (dans la limite de 15 pages) des images et textes destinés à transmettre les enjeux de la pratique du·de la/des candidat·es. Pour les pratiques artistiques impliquant de la vidéo : intégrer des liens numériques de visionnage (Viméo ou YouTube, par exemple en précisant les éventuels mots de passe) au PDF de candidature.

Let’s Not Forget: A Walk in the Past – Artist Commission Call Out

Let’s Not Forget is a community-driven heritage project designed to celebrate and preserve the rich heritage of the Dallow area of Luton. Through the project, Mary Seacole Housing Association and Revoluton Arts seek to create a new, innovative artistic and augmented reality experience, bringing local heritage to life. This will take the form of an interactive outdoor trail around selected heritage sites located within Dallow, where Mary Seacole Housing Association has been proudly based since 1986.

Designers in Residence 2026

“Designers in Residence” invites young international designers to Pforzheim.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed studies at an university of applied sciences or university, must either not be older than 35 years or must have completed their studies not longer than two years ago.

What you get: Three applicants will be selected. The scholarship includes use of fully equipped workshop and coworking workplaces in the EMMA Creati- ve Center in Pforzheim and free accommodation for the period of three months. As required, it will also be possible to use the workshop facilities of the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences. In addition, each scholarship holder will receive a monthly support of 1,000 euros together with travel costs for the journey from and back to home. A special allowance will be made available for material costs. During the scholarship, there is the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with the jury and professors at Pforzheim University. The results of the scholarship will be presented in an exhibition at the EMMA Creative Center in Pforzheim. Those accepting the scholarship are required to be in residence. The scholarship holder may only be absent for a maximum of 10 days. The period of residence in Pforzheim is from April 1 to June 30, 2026.

ArtWorks Open Prize Award Show

Fine artists working in 2D and 3D media are invited to submit work for the ArtWorks Open Prize Award Show. This annual platform supports emerging and mid-career UK artists, awarding cash prizes, exhibitions, and residencies. Loneliness and Poetics – 2024 London Contemporary Art Review Exhibition

Explore the intersection of solitude and artistic expression at the Loneliness and Poetics exhibition, showcasing works from talented artists around the world. This international competition invites submissions across various media, offering a unique platform for creative voices to share their perspectives on this poignant theme.

Eligibility: The competition is open to artists aged 18 and above from around the world. Submissions must align with the competition theme and meet the media requirements. Award certificates will be issued, and winners will be featured in mainstream and art media across the UK, the US, Europe, and beyond, showcasing their achievements and artworks. The recipient of the Best Exhibition Award will have the opportunity to be represented by Gallery NAT, host a solo exhibition, and join the academic committee. Agnese Banti al Romaeuropa Festival 2025

Scrivere di una performance dopo che è accaduta significa interrogare il tempo della sua assenza. È un gesto inevitabilmente postumo, che non mira a restituire ciò che si è visto o sentito, ma a capire cosa rimane, cosa continua a muoversi sottopelle.

Speaking Cables [EXPANDED] di Agnese Banti, presentato al Romaeuropa Festival 2025, è una di quelle opere che sopravvivono alla propria temporalità, che continuano a risuonare anche quando lo spazio scenico è stato smontato e il suono si è dissolto. Ciò che resta non è una memoria nitida, ma una vibrazione sospesa, un’eco che abita ancora il corpo di chi ha ascoltato.

Entrare nello spazio è significato attraversare una costellazione di cavi, altoparlanti e microfoni: una topografia di linee sonore che, più che disegnare un palcoscenico, tracciava una mappa sensoriale. La voce della performer, frammentata e ricombinata, percorreva i cavi come una corrente elettrica, generando un ambiente acustico in continuo movimento. Non c’era un punto di vista privilegiato, né un fronte scenico da cui osservare: si era immersi in una rete di connessioni, dentro un organismo di suono e tensione. Il corpo di Banti danzava con la tecnologia, mosso da un desiderio di abitarla, di confondersi con essa.
La voce diventava materia plastica, presenza che attraversava e veniva attraversata, sostanza ibrida capace di toccare il limite tra umano e artificiale. A distanza di tempo, è proprio questa immagine a riemergere con forza: la voce che si slega dal corpo, che si distribuisce nello spazio e negli oggetti, fino a perdere i confini della propria origine.

Nel lavoro di Agnese Banti, la voce umana è materia di ricerca autonoma, radicale, ancestrale, sensoriale. È corpo ed energia insieme, vibrazione e linguaggio, memoria e contatto. Banti indaga la voce come soglia tra presenza e sparizione, tra identità e alterità, come luogo in cui l’umano incontra il suo doppio acustico e lo lascia parlare. La voce, per lei, è un territorio poroso in cui le categorie di naturale e artificiale si mescolano: può scomporsi, moltiplicarsi, distorcersi fino a diventare altra, disumana, collettiva. È una forma di pensiero incarnato, un campo di risonanza dove la percezione si espande e la soggettività si disperde. Questa esplorazione radicale del vocale, come gesto, materia, respiro,  attraversa l’intera poetica di Banti.
In Speaking Cables, la voce appartiene a una comunità di dispositivi, a un ecosistema sonoro in cui le soggettività si dissolvono e si ricompongono continuamente. Ripensata nel tempo mutante e sospeso della memoria, la performance appare come un esperimento di ascolto radicale, una temporalità circolare, fatta di ritorni e di riverberi. In questo senso, Speaking Cables [EXPANDED] è un’opera che lavora sul residuo e sulla durata, sulla possibilità che l’esperienza artistica non finisca con la sua rappresentazione, ma continui a generare vibrazioni, impulsi e percezioni liberi di muoversi e di ri-prodursi.

Tra i tratti più significativi del progetto, emerge la profonda attenzione di Agnese Banti verso la comunità delle persone ipovedenti e non vedenti, che trova nella versione [EXPANDED] una dimensione effettiva. La performance è stata concepita come esperienza realmente accessibile: attraverso mappe tattili, percorsi guidati e una drammaturgia pensata per il contatto più che per la visione. L’accessibilità non è un dispositivo aggiuntivo, ma uno strumento profondamente necessario ai fini della diffusione del suono e della sua dimensione performativa fra tutti i corpi che ne fanno esperienza, orizzontalmente, senza barriere. Banti trasforma l’idea stessa di fruizione, proponendo un’arte che non esclude, che riconfigura la relazione tra spettatore, spazio e suono. L’ascolto diventa esperienza multisensoriale, campo di incontro tra corpi diversi, luogo in cui la percezione si condivide e si modella.

Questa attenzione alla cura e alla prossimità sensoriale attraversa l’intera poetica dell’artista. Ogni gesto sonoro in Speaking Cables è una forma di relazione: tra voce e materia, tra performer e spettatore, tra dispositivo e spazio. È un lavoro che rifiuta l’idea di tecnologia come superficie neutra, per restituirle invece una dimensione viva, relazionale, affettiva.
I cavi non sono strumenti, ma corpi intermedi, dei veri e propri medium; gli altoparlanti non sono oggetti, ma presenze che respirano insieme alla voce. Tutto è interconnesso, attraversato da correnti invisibili, da onde che costruiscono e disgregano continuamente lo spazio. È un’opera che vive nel tempo della risonanza, nel margine tra presenza e sparizione. Nel suo dissolversi, la performance afferma la possibilità di una persistenza: quella del suono che sopravvive, della voce che continua a parlare attraverso le sue assenze.In un panorama performativo spesso dominato dall’immagine e dalla visibilità, il lavoro di Agnese Banti riporta l’attenzione sull’ascolto, sulla fisicità invisibile del suono, su una forma di percezione che è anche atto politico. Guardata da questa distanza, la sua pratica appare come un invito a rallentare, ad accordare l’udito al tempo della memoria, a lasciare che la voce, nei cavi, continui a vibrare dentro chi ascolta.
