Open Call | Art Exhibition in China - Time Folded, USA

ABOUT EXHIBITION THEME

Time Folded

Time doesn’t always move forward. It loops, stretches, overlaps—and sometimes, it folds.

We invite artists from all disciplines to explore the visual possibilities of nonlinear time: memories that resurface, futures imagined in fragments, histories layered with the now.

This exhibition seeks works that embody the cyclical, fragmented, and simultaneous experience of time. Whether abstract or narrative, conceptual or emotional, we are looking for images or videos that reflect time as an unfolding process—not a fixed line.

ACCEPTED ART MEDIA

All artistic mediums are welcome, including but not limited to painting, photography, video, digital art, mixed media, collage, and sculpture. Works must be submitted in digital format, and artists must agree to have their works printed by the organizer for exhibition display. Original artworks do not need to be shipped. Selected video works will be presented on a screen within the exhibition space.

Exhibition: July 3 - July 25, 2025

Color has the power to transform an image—to set a mood, evoke an emotion, or demand attention. We encourage submissions that showcase how color not only enhances composition but also influences depth, perspective, and perception. Whether vibrant or restrained, structured or organic, let color guide the viewer’s experience of space.

We are honored to have Ann Jastrab as juror for Color + Space. She will select up to 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 images for our Online Gallery. BUDDY SYSTEM: An Exhibit of Paired Works by Artist Friends, Peers, Colleagues, or Associates*, USA

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of art in any media, any genre/style, and any size in tandem with another artist. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media, including 2D, 3D, etc.

Often artists develop special bonds supporting, critiquing, challenging, and celebrating each other's works over years and lifetimes, all while maintaining an informal peer relationship. Or maybe, sometimes, they just maintain a strong affinity for one another's work—one of the best forms of support and critical validation there is, respect by a peer one respects in-turn.

Out of respect for this artist-artist relationship—perhaps the most vital force in supporting quality and achievement in the visual arts—we offer BUDDY SYSTEM* for the first time ever, aiming to exhibit paired works of art by artists who share mutual respect and participate in this important peer support system.

It is important to note that this project is open to any artist at any level. The sole criteria for the pairing is that the relationship between the two is one of admiration, respect, support, friendship, or other positive peer engagement.

Description:
The Sacramento County Department of Airports is soliciting Statements of Qualifications And Experience (SOQ&Es) from qualified artists to design, fabricate, and install permanent artworks at the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) as part of the Department’s large-scale capital improvement program known as “SMForward.” SMForward, which includes six major construction projects, represents a historic opportunity to integrate art into the traveler’s experience while reinforcing and contributing to the Sacramento region’s identity. This RFQ&E is a call for multiple artwork opportunities under SMForward’s Concourse B Expansion project.

$25,000–$200,000
Number of commissions or direct purchases of existing artworks: 4–6

CONCOURSE B EXPANSION
Six (6) additional gates will be added to the west end of Concourse B. These areas are primarily for passengers awaiting departure but also for arriving passengers. They are areas of interlude that give the viewer time to slow down and reflect before, after, or between flights. The opportunity here is to invite travelers deeper into the works of art and revel in their detail, sparking moments of curiosity, contemplation, and calm.

In collaboration with the architect, spaces to hang two-dimensional works of art or low-relief wall pieces will be designed at multiple gates. Artworks for these spaces could be large or small scale and commissioned or purchased with budgets ranging between $25,000 to $200,000. This opportunity was specifically created to engage artists who do not have public art experience.

Wassaic Project 2026 Residency Program Open Call

The Wassaic Project accepts proposals for our 2026 Residency program, which includes the Winter Residency program (Jan – April 2026) and the Summer Residency program (June – September 2026). This call is for individual artists, collaborative teams, groups of two or more individual artists, and artists applying through our Family Residency program. The residency fee is $900 (the fee is per artist/collab group/artist team/family). The fees cover: semi-private studio space(s), private room in a shared house (our Family program receives a private house), access to our wood shop, print shop, and kiln, staff support, and programming such as our visiting artist program, artist talks, studio visits, open studios, artist presentations, etc.

The Wassaic Project cultivates and supports the community for emerging and professional contemporary artists, writers, curators, filmmakers, and other creatives. Housed in historic, landmark buildings, the residency program offers ten artists each month the opportunity to live and work in the heart of a rural community. The Wassaic Project seeks artists working in a diverse range of media who want to produce, explore, challenge, and expand on their current art-making practices while participating in a community-based arts organization. We will not be holding separate Summer and Winter Residency open calls this year. Instead, we will be holding one Artist Residency open call for the entirety of 2026.

On our SlideRoom application, you will be able to specify which sessions you’re most interested in joining us for. Applications will be open from March 24 to June 2, 2025.

FAMILY RESIDENCY PROGRAM: The Wassaic Project broadly defines “family” as a group of more than one individual where there is an in-house dependent relationship as a necessary caregiver. The Wassaic Project recognizes that artists who have caregiving relationships, as providers or recipients, often opt out of peer community building for practical reasons. The Wassaic Project aims to provide accommodations that increase access to our residency program. Examples of caregiving may include but are not limited to: parent/child (parent is caregiver), child/parent (child is caregiver), partner/partner (where one partner is a supportive caregiver of the other and cohabitation is required for caregiving), a recipient of caregiving, self-selection into this application for separate and additional housing space by identifying as a family applicant.

REVIEW: Residents are selected by a review committee composed of the Wassaic Project Co-Directors, the Director of Artistic Programming, and professionals in the field. Residents will be chosen based on the quality of their work, commitment to their practice, and ability to interact positively with the community at large.

Call for Art: HOME, USA

Call for Entries: H O M E

Curator: Fiona Cashell

Application Deadline: April 26, 2025

What does it mean to call a place home? How does the act of moving—leaving, arriving, migrating—shape a person? When we think of our relationship to place, there are many complex experiences to consider, and many questions to ask. Perhaps the thread that connects us all, is the desire to belong.

In both philosophical and Buddhist thought, impermanence speaks of the transient nature of all things—the inevitability of change, movement, and transformation. This concept can resonate deeply when we find ourselves navigating new territories; when caught between the familiar and the unknown, or when searching for stability in flux, or even searching for flux infixed stability.

The inertia of not changing creates a tension between wanting to shift direction and being unable to make a move. Home offers safety and protection from the cold, unless home is the cold, then home becomes a prison.

The tension between longing to stay and the pull to explore– between holding onto what we know or embracing the unknown — unable to leave/ unable to stay.

To seek to belong is to map the self. We position and negotiate our identities within landscapes, environments, and place. This experience is universal, transcending cultures, geographies, borders and histories. It compels us to ask: What is home? How does it manifest —as a place, a person, an object, a phrase, a poem, or even as a memory?

We invite submissions that explore these themes through:

  • Narrative inquiry
  • Documentative, explorative, or speculative approaches
  • Interdisciplinary practice
  • Conceptual, abstract, or experimental processes

We are particularly interested in works that engage with concepts relating to:

  • Belonging
  • Home (what is home, its meaning, its representation)
  • Place, landscape, and environment
  • Borders and liminal spaces
  • Mapping the self and identity in flux
  • Navigating the unknown or unfamiliar

Deadline for Submission of Applications: Saturday, April 26 at 11:59pm CST

Opening Reception, Friday, June 6, 5:00-8:00pm

  • Exhibition dates: June 5 - 27, 2024
  • Gallery hours: Thurs – Fri 2-6pm, Sat – Sun 12-4 pm

Expand and Contract 2025: AI and Alternative Processes, USA

Open Call: Expand and Contract 2025: AI and Alternative Processes
Juried By: Dr. Rotem Rozental, Los Angeles Center of Photography Executive Director and Chief Curator.
Deadline for Submission: Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Midnight
Notice of Acceptance: Tuesday, May 6th, 2025
Opening Reception (Virtual): Thursday, May 29, 2025, 6-7 pm PST on Zoom
Exhibition Run Dates (Virtual): May 29 4, 2025 - August 31, 2025 (Virtual)

Description
Winners and up to three select honorable mentions’ work will be invited to show via an in-person curated exhibition at LACP’s Downtown LA home, in addition to being featured online on the LACP website.

This call invites submissions that consider AI technologies as the most recent addition to the world of alternative processes, and works that explore the connections between AI, camerawork, analogue technologies and visual storytelling, whether while capturing images or printing them. The selected works will be featured in a virtual exhibition on LACP’s website, and selected works will be featured in an in-person exhibition that will open at our DTLA gallery on June 11, 2025.

Technological developments hasten pronouncements regarding the death of photography every few decades, with the most recent trigger being digital innovations, such as digital cameras and image editing software. And yet, photography persists. In fact, it continues to re-define how we engage with one another, imagine ourselves and our position in the world. Most recently, AI caused an uproar among visual practitioners, as machines have been trained to create images using images produced by humans who were not paid for services unknowingly provided. Moreover, AI seems to pose a threat to human agency.

From a creative standpoint, this exhibition considers such conflicts and wonders whether AI is another tool that will expand alternative means to create images, or another step toward the end of photographic creativity as we know it.

Fairytale Town Public Art Project - Call for Artists, USA

Fairytale Town invites artists and artist teams residing in the United States to submit their qualifications for the Fairytale Town public art project in Sacramento, CA. The artwork opportunity is for an approximately 20’ x 30’ interactive playset installation for kids aged 1-10 to climb, walk through, and explore.

Applicants do not need to have previous experience creating playsets to be qualified for the project. However, past experience must show outdoor installations of a similar scale to this project.

About Fairytale Town

Fairytale Town is a children’s storybook park in Sacramento, covering 3.5 acres. It is an independent nonprofit organization. Opened in 1959, it now hosts over 200,000 children and their families each year who pay a modest admission fee. The park features over 25 playsets, each themed on a classic folktale or fairytale (Cinderella, Old Woman in the Shoe, Anansi the Spider, Mr. McGregor’s Garden, etc.) The park is also home to a family of live barnyard animals (three little pigs, billy goats gruff, Mary’s little lambs, etc.).

Its mission is to promote the imagination, creativity and education of children. A core philosophy is outdoor unstructured play. None of the playsets move (no carnival rides); instead, the beautiful playsets encourage children to be physically active, and they require the child to furnish the play narrative. Each playset is high-quality artisanry – both artistically meritorious and functional.

For more information about Fairytale Town: https://www.fairytaletown.org/

Project Description and Goals

The artwork opportunity is for an approximately 20’ x 30’ interactive playset installation for kids ages 1-10 to climb, walk through, and explore.

The artwork should:

- Engage children ages 1-10

- Be made with durable materials suitable for the outdoors and for children to play and interact with.

- Be inspired by (but not necessarily be a literal interpretation of) the Monkey King. The Monkey King (or Sun Wukong) is a trickster and a main character in the 16th-century novel Journey to the West: Legends of the Monkey King, a classic of Chinese literature.

- Encourage children to be physically active and inspire them to furnish a play narrative.

Site Description

There are multiple approximately 20’ x 30’ locations may be considered by selected finalists for the Monkey King artwork installation.  All of the sites are adjacent to other play features.

NUDE: 17th Annual Call for Works Exploring the Uncovered Human Form in Current Art, USA

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works that address the uncovered human form. Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional 2D and 3D visual arts media.

The human body is a popular subject for many reasons, the most obvious being that it is us. Throughout history (and pre-history) the representation of the human form has been charged with tremendous energy. Whether it be a religious edict that one should not depict the human form—a taboo, or the glorious opposite—a revelation of mastery over form in the crafting of sensuous and life-like physical human beauty, the art of the body has moved us through time.

Through all the permutations art has experienced across history, work of the body persists. We use the human nude to master skill, understand ourselves, and push social and psychological buttons for the sake of expression (sensual, delicate, political, social, narrative, spiritual, and so on). We intend for Manifest's ongoing annual NUDE project, now in its 17th year, to explore how our collective body is used today in art to achieve these goals and more.

Behind the Mask: A Portrait Exhibition, USA

Spiva Center for the Arts invites artists to submit portrait work for a new exhibition exploring the tension between external appearances and internal truths.

Behind the Mask challenges the audience to examine how we navigate the complex relationship between our public selves and our private identities. Whether literal, metaphorical, or psychological, the "mask" serves as a symbol of the roles we adopt, the facades we construct, and the truth we conceal. These do not need to be self-portraits.

We invite entries of work in any physical medium. This will be a juried exhibition, and the work selected will be on display in Spiva’s gallery for seven weeks.

Artwork Guidelines:

Mediums Accepted: We are accepting all forms of portraiture, including but not limited to painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture.

Presentation Restriction: Accepted work must not be presented behind glass, unless it is hand-delivered.

Focus: Portraits should explore the theme of masks—whether through symbolism, abstract representations, or direct depictions. Consider how your work might show the divide between outward appearances and inner emotions or truths. We are not necessarily looking for literal masks.

Awards:

Monetary prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
