Call for Entry: UNDER 2500, USA

Deadline: Saturday, November 1 @ MIDNIGHT | Application

PROSPECTUS

CALL FOR ENTRY: Have your work purchased by local buyers & collectors, just in time for the holidays! Maryland Art Place (MAP) is seeking artists for UNDER $2500, our upcoming winter benefit exhibition & affordable art sale. The exhibition will include approximately 1-3 works by each selected artist (scale dependent – in the case of smaller works more than 3 pieces may be accepted). Each individual piece must retail for $2,500 or less.

Why UNDER $2500? In the last 2 years inflation has been a huge contributing factor to rising artwork sales prices. Simply put, the cost of goods for artists to create their art is far higher than it used to be. The majority of galleries consider the most important contemporary artwork value segments to be under $5,000–$10,000 according to ARTSY (2023.) It is with that in mind that MAP is presenting UNDER $2500 as affordable.

In our 13th year of the sale, we look forward to showcasing a more diverse and broader range of artworks. Artists are encouraged to submit works retailing in both the UNDER $500 and UNDER $2500 categories to include original works, editioned prints, sculptures and more.

UNDER $2500 is MAP’s winter benefit. Proceeds from the sale of artwork will be split 50/50 between Maryland Art Place and the artist. The event is ticketed ($40) however participating artists are welcomed free of charge.

UNDER $2500 is a hybrid, physical and virtual exhibition event. The physical exhibition opens Friday, November 21  from 6pm-10pm. Artworks may be purchased by patrons and taken off the walls on a first come first served basis that night. All works will be wrapped in brown paper with MAP’s signature holiday bow.

The virtual sale will launch the very next day, Saturday November 22 at 10 am and run through BLACK FRIDAY, November 28, 10pm. The virtual sale will include more artists than the physical sale. *Please note: applications received will be selected for either the virtual sale (featured online) exclusively, or for both the physical (featured in gallery) AND virtual exhibition (featured online). Your acceptance letter will indicate in which capacity your work will be presented.

MAP will maintain gallery hours Saturday, November 22 from Noon-4pm for any remaining physical works that may be left for purchase.

Ahmet Öğüt | neither artificial nor intelligent | A plus A Gallery, USA

Ahmet Öğüt

neither artificial nor intelligent

preview 6th November, 6pm

6th November 2025 - 8th February 2026

A plus A Gallery, Venice

Ahmet Öğüt, widely recognized for his participatory and socially engaged projects, returns to Venice after representing Turkey at the Venice Biennale in 2009 with a new body of work that brings to light his rarely explored painting practice. Titled neither artificial nor intelligent, the exhibition features a previously unseen selection of ten oil portraits from a larger series of fifty, created over the past three years. The works will be on view exclusively on-site at A plus A Gallery from November 6, 2025, to February 8, 2026.

Images of the artworks will be made available online only once they are no longer in the artist’s possession. Until then, the show offers a fully in-person viewing experience, genuine and free from digital mediation.

The 70x70cm canvases depict both fictional and real artists, each with diverse practices and from various cities that are not disclosed to the viewer. Why do we associate a particular face with a specific place or type of art? What biases influence our interpretation of an image? Neither artificial nor intelligent invites an offline and individual encounter with the portrayed artists, figures who rarely receive institutional recognition due to their political status and origins, within a western classificatory system also deeply rooted in the filtering structures of artificial intelligence.

The title of the series is gifted from Atlas of AI by Kate Crawford (Yale University Press, 2021), in which the author traces how artificial intelligence, often perceived as abstract and detached from human input, is actually the cause of tangible and lasting damage such as war, environmental degradation, and social inequality.

Drawing from the historical context outlined in the book about control over facial recognition technologies, from phrenology to unauthorized mass data collection, to today’s intelligent vision training techniques, the exhibition questions how technological progress still relies on inherently flawed classification methods shaped by human bias and systems of power.

Born in Silvan, Diyarbakir, Ahmet Öğüt completed his BA from the Fine Arts Faculty at Hacettepe University, Ankara, MA from Art and Design Faculty at Yıldız Teknik University, Istanbul. He works across different media and has exhibited widely, more recently with solo exhibitions in institutions including Art on the Underground & New Contemporaries, Van Abbemuseum, State of Concept Athens, Kunstverein Dresden, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Chisenhale Gallery; Berkeley Art Museum; and Kunsthalle Basel.

He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including; Singapore Biennale (2025); Sense of Safety, Yermilov Centre Kharkiv (2024); Dhaka Art Summit (2023); 17th Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul, (2022); FRONT International 2022, Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art, Ohio (2022); Asia Society Triennial: We Do Not Dream Alone (2021); In the Presence of Absence, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (2020); Zero Gravity at Nam SeMA, Seoul Museum of Art (2019); Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale (2018); the British Art Show 8 (2015-2017); the 13th Biennale de Lyon (2015); Performa 13, the Fifth Biennial of Visual Art Performance, New York (2013); the 7th Liverpool Biennial (2012); the 12th Istanbul Biennial (2011); the New Museum Triennial, New York (2009); and the 5th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art (2008).

Öğüt was awarded the Visible Award for the Silent University (2013); the special prize of the Future Generation Art Prize, Pinchuk Art Centre, Ukraine (2012); the De Volkskrant Beeldende Kunst Prijs 2011, Netherlands; and the Kunstpreis Euro- pas Zukunft, Museum of Contemporary Art, Germany (2010). He co-represented Turkey at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009). Lives and works in Amsterdam and Istanbul. His works in institutional collections such as Guggenheim Museum New York; Kadist, San Francisco, US - Paris; Rennie Collection, Vancouver; Sammlung Goetz, Munich; Frans Hals Museum; FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, Dunkerque; Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis; KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven; Fondazione Giuliani, Rome; MSU Broad Art Museum, East Lansing; Vehbi Koç Foundation, Istanbul.

The Uncivil Canvas: Art in the Age of Discord, USA

Exhibition Description:

The Uncivil Canvas: Art in the Age of Discord invites artists working across all mediums to contribute to a collective visual essay that reflects our turbulent times through a feminist lens, in particular to reflect the lived experiences of women, children, and marginalized communities. We seek art that responds to the pressing issues that shape our global landscape: racial injustice, immigration, systemic inequities, criminal (in)justice, and stark imbalances in wealth, power, education, housing, and access to essential resources like food, water, healthcare and ongoing wars. We welcome pieces that confront the climate crisis, affirm women's rights, and celebrate gender diversity in all its forms.

Rather than overt protest pieces, we seek nuanced, multi-dimensional works—realism to conceptual—that confront the erosion of human rights under the current administration. The exhibition will operate as an instrument of resistance and empathy, challenging policies and ideologies rooted in division and authoritarianism, with art that speaks truth to power and refuses silence in the face of regression and the unraveling of humanity.

We believe the artist’s voice will help to foster these important dialogues worldwide and invite artists to add their voice.

This exhibition, "The Uncivil Canvas: Art in the Age of Discord" is open to women and non-binary artists, including transgender women and femme/feminine-identifying genderqueer artists.

Please submit images of up to three works in all mediums that include a visual element and have not been previously exhibited at WMG. Artists must address the theme of this exhibition in their work and in their artist statement.

About the Juror: Karen M. Gutfreund is an independent curator and artist with a focus on feminist and social justice art. She has worked in the Painting & Sculpture Department for MoMA, Andre Emmerick Gallery, The Knoll Group, the John Berggruen Gallery and the Pacific Art League, and is an art consultant to both corporations and individuals. She served on the board of the Women’s Caucus for Art, the Pacific Art League and the Petaluma Arts Council. She was the National Exhibitions Director for the Women’s Caucus for Art for six years, is a member of ArtTable, the Northern California Representative for The Feminist Art Project, and Curator for UniteWomen.org.

To date Gutfreund has created over fifty national exhibitions and in 2020 curated a collection of art in a book titled “Not Normal: Art in the Age of Trump” showcasing 147 artists with 350+ works of art. Forgotten Architecture - Exploring the Beauty in Neglect, USA

Abandoned buildings are more than relics of the past—they are silent monuments to history, memory, and the passage of time. Their peeling paint, fractured walls, and quiet interiors hold stories that have slipped into stillness. In this juried exhibition, Decagon Gallery invites photographers to explore the strange allure and poetic resonance of architectural spaces left behind.

We are seeking images that engage with the theme of abandoned or neglected structures—buildings overtaken by nature, spaces weathered by time, or interiors echoing with absence. Both documentary and interpretive approaches are welcome. Whether your work is rooted in urban exploration, formal composition, or surreal reinterpretation, we want to see how you find beauty in decay.

Juror Andrew Moore is widely acclaimed for his long term photographic series, which record the effect of time on the natural and built landscape.

INTERFACE: A Call for Works About the Aesthetics of Technology, USA

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works that examine the aesthetics of technology across time and media.

INTERFACE is an exhibit about the aesthetics of technology, with a focus that includes the emerging trends of new media, but also historical ones. As technologies evolve, so do their looks and feels: business-like terminals, 8-bit pixels, psychedelic pulp, the charm and color of Y2K, even the rhythm and timbre of the never-ending streams in our pockets. Each shift reveals not only technological progress, but cultural mood, nostalgia, and projection into the future.

Yet the aesthetics of our technologies are part of a longer story. Rasping marks in wood, a distinctive brushmark or smudge of oil paint, the crackle of vinyl, or the grain of film all remind us that technology—old or new—imprints itself on the art it makes possible.

NUMBERS: A Call for Works About, By, or Featuring Numbers, USA

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works that engage with the universal language of numbers, as both measurement and metaphor, structure and symbol.

We live by numbers. We count the days until a child is born, and the days since. We mark time in birthdays, anniversaries, and retirements. We measure progress in grades, salaries, “likes,” years on the job, and steps taken or miles run. Numbers shape how we understand ourselves and the world—our distance traveled, our age, our debts, our hopes.

Numbers are also a language. They describe not only what is tangible but also what lies beyond immediate observation—weather patterns, the speed of light, the pull of gravity, the scale of galaxies. Like letters and type, they carry formal beauty in their shapes and arrangements. Writing the notation for a perfect sphere is so much simpler than drawing one, and yet both actions “mean” the same concept.

ECHO: A Call for Works About Repetition or Duplication, About Duplication or Repetition, USA

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works that use or examine repetition, either as a formal approach or as an underlying concept.

Repetition sets precedence. A repeated element, audible, visual, creates a pattern. This pattern, its predictability, leads to rhythm and continuity. It creates a sense of movement in time or place. When you break that pattern and interrupt the flow you have created you subvert that continuity and pull the rug out from the viewer. The use of repetition both builds and disrupts.

Repetition allows for comparison. Being refections of each other, doubles and doppelgängers highlight difference and create a dialogue.

Repetition is action full of care. Re-addressing a familiar subject permits you to return to it again with new knowledge, gained the first time you paid it attention.

Repetition persists. Trying again and again begets mastery. It erodes shorelines and carves canyons.

Repetition disseminates. Multiples, editions, clones, and copies spread, reaching far from where they originated.

Call for Entries: Frozen: Cold, Quiet, Pure, USA

For FROZEN, we seek photography that captures the distilled essence of winter—its clean lines, soft textures, and silent spaces. Think snow-covered hills at dawn, delicate frost crystals, breath turning to mist, frozen rivers, or the quiet geometry of ice.

Whether stark and minimal or rich with detail, we welcome work that celebrates winter’s ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. All photographic approaches are encouraged—black and white, color, traditional, experimental, and everything in between.

We look forward to seeing how you capture the frozen world.

GLIMMER: Call for Works About Epiphanies from Within the Mundane, USA

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works about revelations, sudden comprehension, and epiphanies from within the mundane.

In the repetition of the everyday, the smallest glimmer can cut through like a bolt of lightning—or arrive more gently, through a subtle but irrevocable shift. A whisper. Despite its brevity, it appears at just the right moment to change you. And changed, you may see everything differently.

Glimmers usually come unbidden. They find us in the shower, while preparing a meal, walking the dog, sweeping the studio floor. Magic arises from the mundanity of life—the neutral backdrop against which something unexpected and transformative can emerge. These flashes of the divine reach us when we are open enough, still enough, to receive them.

This exhibition will showcase works that emerge from or reflect on such moments of insight—when the everyday becomes fertile ground. A half-finished sketch, a broken vase, an old object, a glance out the window, a shimmer of light through a glass of water: each can become a door to something more.

Into Your Eyes: Photographic Portraiture in the Digital Era, USA

This juried open call invites submissions of photographic portraits, to be shown in a virtual exhibition organized by LACP.

The term portrait is used here broadly, referencing images of groups, single humans and non-human beings. The image could be an expression of an emotion, a conceptual meditation on loved experience, or a documentarian effort.

As we collectively experience the alienation, isolation and loneliness brought about by our current digital era, portraits seem more pressing and relevant than ever. To look at one’s eyes in an image feels like an immediate invitation to connect, to explore, to be curious about others, to wonder about what the image reveals and what it could never disclose. It’s an ongoing call for empathy, for a relationship with those we will probably never meet, whose lives we, the viewers, will never experience.

Emanuel Levinas wrote about the ethical values we reveal in the world by encountering one’s face. Roland Barthes was fascinated by portraits from the past, and the idea that he is looking at eyes that looked at the world’s greats, or that he is looking at a person no longer living. Photographic portraits shorten the distance between the past and present, between us and those around us, and might help us see beyond ourselves, beyond our time, beyond our experience in the world.

Call for Entries: Monochrome, USA

Monochrome: Light, Shadow, Form, and Texture

Deadline for submissions: Sep 8, 2025

Juror: Jason Landry

Prints due: Oct 24, 2025

Exhibition: November 7 - November 28, 2025

In a world saturated with color, there is something timeless and powerful about the monochrome image. Stripped to its essentials—light, shadow, form, and texture—black-and-white photography invites us to see differently. It distills the world into tone and emotion, allowing mood and meaning to rise to the surface.

For this juried exhibition, we seek photographs that celebrate the monochrome palette in all its forms—from deep blacks to silvery grays, soft sepias to high-key whites. Whether analog or digital, documentary or abstract, we welcome images that embrace the expressive range of monochrome photography.

All photographic styles and processes are welcome.

10 x 10 to-go, USA

Abington Art Center is proud to present a call for submissions for our show: 10×10 to-go.

Unlike a conventional exhibition, 10×10 to-go acts as a pop-up shop, with an emphasis on selling smaller, moderately-priced work to those visiting our center. 10×10 to-go grants artists the opportunity to not only make artwork sales in a gallery-setting, but also showcase a breadth of work.

Artists are invited to submit 10 works of art in any medium with the size limitation of 10×10 inches, inclusive of frame, and no more than 3 inches in depth. Works must be available for sale with the price not exceeding $250.

This exhibition will take place throughout the holiday season during the Astra Lumina light show from November 6, 2025 – January 5, 2026. Abington Art Center staff will handle all sales on behalf of the artist, allowing collectors to purchase pieces directly off the gallery wall and exhibiting artists to make profit on a recurring basis.

Artists who are interested in this opportunity may apply to our application form by October 12.
