The Umbrella Arts Center (Concord, MA) presents four or more exhibits in the main Allie Kussin Gallery annually, as well as exhibits in the second floor Wedge Gallery and other spaces throughout the Center. Exhibits include curated and juried shows as well as solo and community exhibitions.

The Umbrella is currently seeking proposals for our Winter Exhibit, planned for the period between Jan 1 through mid-March 2025, as well as for exhibits for Fall 2025 and beyond. Proposals from both artists and curators will be considered.

Proposals should include:

  • Letter of interest in working at The Umbrella Arts Center

  • Artist/Curator Statement (300 words max)

  • Artist/Curator Portfolio

  • Artist/Curator resume or curriculum vitae with contact information

  • Website and/or social media (optional)

  • List of three references

  • Proposed Exhibition Title

  • Proposed Exhibition Statement (300 words max)

  • High-resolution JPEGs of a selection of work or exhibits created/curated within the past two years

The Umbrella is seeking shows that engage with and add to the current creative conversation, offer a space of reflection, and feature a broad range of mediums and themes. We serve an audience of all ages and the Galleries are fully open to the public.

For our Winter Exhibit specifically, we are searching for a show with lighter themes and subject matters to balance out our season. We would like to host something fun, whimsical, with a storytelling element. However, The Umbrella is interested in hearing your story and receiving your proposal, even if it doesn’t fit these specific parameters.

Please email Julia Martorell (julia@theumbrellaarts.org) your full proposal and all materials by December 8, 2024.

The Winter Exhibit will need to be installed by January 15, 2025 and removed on or about March 23, 2025. Any respondents will need to commit to these deadlines.

Emily is a dancer, interdisciplinary artist, and philosophy PhD candidate based in Toronto, Canada. Her philosophical writing and dance practice explore connection between and alienation from people and place, respectively. Emily’s dance practice is shaped by her training, competition, and performance over the past two decades in various dance styles, including ballet, contemporary, and bachata.

In residency at NES, Emily worked on two projects. In dance, she focused on exploring the intuitive moulding or resistance of the body in response to changes in the natural environment. Building from this practice, she collaborated with cinematographer and fellow resident, Rebeka Naydenova, by choreographing and performing in a short film. In the shared studio, she sculpted a clay portrait of a live model that she carved into a life-size mask. https://www.instagram.com/emily.bachata/
