The word curve has a broad spectrum of meanings from throwing a curve ball to slowing down for the curve on a country road, and let’s not forget the curves associated with the human body. For this call the focus is on images where a curve or curves is an important element of the composition. No matter where you photograph the possibilities are endless. It can be that winding road. It can also be a stack of old tires, curved windows in a city building, or, in fact, the shape of the building itself. Do you see the curvaceous form of an elephant’s trunk when feeding, the curl of a giant wave or even a closer view of a head full of curls. Curves are all around us. Capture them as a dominant element of your images and send them in.

Abington Art Center is excited to present a call for submissions for our Fall Juried Show: High in Fiber.
High in Fiber is a fiber arts exclusive exhibition showcasing the versatility and complexity of the fiber medium, from its rich history to its unique characteristics as a material.
Fiber arts, also known as textile arts, is considered to be both a new and old form of art. Historically, fiber arts is one of the oldest art forms. Dating back hundreds of thousands of years, this form of art was born out of necessity and served a practical purpose over an aesthetic one. Coupled with the understanding that fibers and textiles were historically the domain of women, fiber arts has been strongly associated with domesticism and was deemed as “lesser art”. The efforts of feminist artists during the 1970s feminist movement pushed fiber arts into the realm of high art and helped the medium become what it is today: a form of fine art.
Please submit up to 3 works by September 30th and our juror will review submissions. Applicants should expect to hear with a decision by October 11th.
Forms of fiber art include weaving, embroidery, soft sculpture, felting, rug-making, quilting, crocheting, needlepoint, fabric dyeing, and many more.
--
Submissions should be high resolution photos (72ppi) including the title of the work, year of creation, dimensions, media, and name of the artist. Please include a statement that addresses at least one of the prompted questions above.
Selected artwork(s) must be dropped off or shipped to Abington Art Center by Oct. 29th.
All shipping costs are covered by the artist. Please include a return label, as artwork(s) will be shipped back to the artist in the box it came in.
Exhibition will run Nov. 8 - Dec. 16, 2024
The opening reception and award ceremony will be held on Nov. 8th, 6-8pm
