Architectural Imagery, USA

23 décembre 2024 à 07:12

Architectural photography: The photographing of buildings and similar structures that are aesthetically pleasing and accurate representations of their subjects.Throughout the history of photography, buildings have been highly valued photographic subjects, mirroring society's appreciation for architecture and its cultural significance. As building designs changed and broke with traditional forms, architectural photography also evolved. During the early-to-mid-20th century, architectural photography became more creative as photographers used lines and bold shadows in their compositions, and experimented with other techniques, resulting in architectural photography being viewed as more of an art form.

Juror: Jeff Curto

Portraiture is one of photography’s most profound forms of expression, offering us a window into the complex inner lives of individuals. A great portrait doesn’t just capture a likeness—it uncovers the depth, emotion, and history that shape the person in front of the lens.

We invite you to create portraits that transcend the surface, revealing the often-hidden dimensions of identity. We seek work that goes beyond physical appearance to explore the subtleties of emotion, history, and the human experience.

We are honored to have Jeff Curto as juror for Portraiture: Unveiling Identity. He will select up to 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 images for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog and remain permanently on our website, and be promoted on social media with links to photographer’s URL.

12 décembre 2024 à 23:23

Montello Foundation is a foundation dedicated to support artists who foster our understanding of nature, its fragility and our need to protect it.

The Montello Foundation provides a solitary retreat where artists can experience the vastness of a desert landscape from a safe building, a “base camp,” a unique space for inspiration and creation, a place that provides a shield from distractions in the solitude of the desert.

A building designed with a large shading roof under which there are two distinct spaces: one space for the bodily needs: eating; sleeping; washing, and a stove for the cold desert nights, and a second space for work: for writing; painting; drawing; studying, a space for the first materializations of new ideas.

There is no cost for this program. Artists must cover travel and living expenses.

Self as Universe: Mending Our Collective Ecosystem Residencies, USA

7 décembre 2024 à 22:01

The climate crisis is an urgent global concern. Self as Universe: Mending Our Collective Ecosystem Residencies at A Studio in the Woods invite artists to explore the connections within our collective ecosystems and use the power of imagination to heal the wounds in the relationship between ourselves and our communities. Southeast Louisiana’s land and inhabitants are continually scarred by the effects of environmental degradation. These injuries – the historical to the present – affect our bodies, families, communities, and cultures, as well as the land and its other creatures.  We encourage artists to guide our collective response as the caretakers and caregivers to our universe while bringing wisdom, integrity, optimism, and even humor to intentional and timely projects seeking transformation for our species and planet. This new call reflects a desire to repair the disconnection and alienation between humankind and the planet that is hindering the climate movement.

We are open to artists of all disciplines who have demonstrated an established dialogue with environmental and cultural issues. We ask artists to describe in detail how our unique region will affect their work, propose a public component to their residency, and suggest ways how they will engage with the local community.

International Call for Entry, Women by Women, USA

21 novembre 2024 à 07:20

The history of photography has a long tradition of representing women as subjects but has less to say about women as artists. Today, the roles of women in photography are both behind the camera and in front of it. Who understands women better than women? The female perspective offers an important view of the many facets of womanhood and women’s role in society. This exhibition seeks women photographers who explore and celebrate the myriad ways that they render female-identifying subjects.

In addition, the incubator lab space – tailored for startups – is outfitted with features and shared equipment to facilitate safe experimentation and expedite research endeavors. For more information about the UNMC research work: https://www.unmc.edu/vcr/about/fast-facts.html

The Edge District will also house other facilities, making it a live/work campus. The Catalyst building combines UNMC’s UNeMed and UNeTech branches with biotech and technology startups to facilitate the growth of research and innovation and allow entrepreneurs, investors and businesses to collaborate in the renovated 1906 Omaha Steel Castings industrial tract. The building will also include space for businesses, a food hall, and more. For more information about the EDGE District, please view this link: https://www.edgeomaha.com

Site and Artwork Overview

This UNMC CORE building (Campus Operations and Research Excellence) is located on the UNMC Saddlecreek Campus in Omaha, Nebraska, and is a hub for cutting edge medical technology and research. The Committee envisions artwork that is striking and bold, and exemplifies the cutting edge nature of the work being done on this campus.

A work that combines concepts about both art and science is preferred. The artwork should add to the inspirational goals of the CORE building, seeking to cultivate collaboration, innovation and discovery, and elevate the university’s role as a leader in innovation and research.

The artwork should also enhance UNMC’s reputation as a center of excellence and opportunity. The artwork can include light and technology, and should be durable and easy to clean. Additional details about potential artwork sites are on the following pages. Artists can use more than one site. Quality over quantity and the adherence to the budget, will be considered.

1% for Art, University of NE Lincoln, Westbrook Music Building, USA

25 novembre 2024 à 18:45

The Westbrook Music Building is a facility within the Glenn Korff School of Music in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine & Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, which is Nebraska’s only land-grant university. The Glenn Korff School of Music is a professional, comprehensive arts institution devoted to the advancement of music and dance, the preparation of the next generation of arts professionals, and service to the arts professions/institutions. It holds the following key values: collaborative, inclusive, and creative.

The Glenn Korff School of Music brings the world to Nebraska, and represents Nebraska to the world, by bringing together students from a wide diversity of backgrounds to develop their excitement, knowledge, expertise, and practice of music and dance. There are currently more than 400 students enrolled, with areas of study ranging from composition/history/theory, conducting, dance, jazz studies, music education, performance, and more. The Music/Dance Faculty consists of an outstanding array of internationally acclaimed artists and scholars who care deeply about their students and who work in close collaboration to serve the mission of the Glenn Korff School of Music. For more information about the Glenn Korff School of Music: https://arts.unl.edu/music

The new Westbrook Music Building will house an array of rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, the library, a performance space, classrooms, and faculty offices/studios. It is also located in close proximity to the Lied Center for Performing Arts, The Sheldon Museum of Art and its noteworthy outdoor sculpture garden.

Site and Artwork Overview

This newly constructed Westbrook Music Building is located on the corner of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus. The main entrance to the building is located at the corner of the campus that opens to downtown Lincoln. That entrance opens to four-story, light-filled hallway that leads into a lobby with an atrium. That Hallway and Lobby are the artwork site for this project and can be viewed from many different vantage points within the building.

The Committee would consider work that creates a cohesive experience by using the volume and span of the artwork site. The Committee envisions artwork that is striking and bold, and exemplifies the inherent nature, scholarship and/or curiosity of the research, studies, and creativity occurring in the Westbrook Music Building. In the submission, artists should include in the artist statement how they intend to use the artwork site.

The committee would consider many different types of public art interventions, including but not limited to installations and technological works. However, the ceiling in this space was not built to support artwork hanging from the ceiling. For artwork within 8 feet from the ground, the artwork can not extend past 4” to be ADA compliant. Artwork should use materials that are long lasting, and require simple cleaning/maintenance management.

Given the values of the Glenn Korff’s School Music, and in recognition of its status as a land-grant university, the Committee would like to invite students and faculty of the Glenn Korff School of Music to interact with the three finalists twice during the projected timeline. Applicants to this project must acknowledge and consent to the interactivity requested. The first interaction would be an informational meeting, which would take place in the time allotted for finalists to create their proposals, and would be a session where artists can interact with the people using the space for information about what they do and how they envision the space. The second interaction, which would take place during the proposal presentation meeting, would involve students and faculty listening to the finalist’s presentations to the Committee. The final deliberation and decision would be made by the Selection Committee, alone.

NYC4PA Call for Entry - MONOCHROME, USA

The first photographs to be part of the world of art were monochrome prints. The images were captured by large format cameras, developed into negatives and printed in the darkroom. The world of photography has come a long way since then with color dominating so much of what we shoot these days, and cameras now an integral part of our very portable phones.

With so many color images around us there is still something special about a monochrome print, whether it be black and white, sepia or even shades of a single color.  These are the images where all the emotion, texture and beauty are expressed in gradations from light to dark. No matter if your original image was shot with tri x film, a digital SLR, or your phone, if the end product is a terrific monochrome image, it fits the call.

OPEN CALL: ”A MEDIA QUILT PROJECT”, USA

17 novembre 2024 à 07:20

This large-scale participatory media project will utilize the concept of a traditional quilt through submissions and the lens of current video technology.

Through this OPEN CALL, (for Baltimore City and Baltimore County residents) Media Artist Mandy Morrison with Curator Aleem Allison, will select a collection of uploaded short videos that explore themes commonly portrayed in traditional quilts, such as comfort, friendship, love, gratitude, history, family, inequality, emotional and physical scarring, and loss. Using video mapping, these individual short videos will be organized into a larger projected time-based "Media Quilt” to be projected in Gallery 410, a downtown (Bromo Arts District) gallery space with large street-facing windows.

The installation is set to run from January 30-March 25, 2025, and the opening on January 30 will coincide with an exhibition opening at Maryland Art Place. The gallery’s location on the corner of Mulberry and Eutaw Streets, is an area with significant car and foot traffic. The all-glass windows of the gallery will create an immersive and dynamic display, especially during the dark evening winter months (January-March) when the projection will be most striking.

This is a project that portends to bring a wide range of individual art and arts-adjacent communities into dialogue that will consist of one singular and evolving piece.

Along with the exhibition and opening, there will be community engagement initiatives involving both contributing artists and local communities with a primary focus on those who live in or have businesses in the Bromo-Arts District.

Planned engagement activities include:Intermittent Friday and Saturday night media-jam sessions with refreshments during the exhibition of "A Media Quilt Project" and an Artist Talk and Roundtable with participants hosted by Allison and Morrison.

All selected artists will receive a modest honorarium, and be listed in publicity/promotional materials.

DEADLINE  for submissions be on Dec. 15 (11:29PM)

This project is administered by Maryland Art Place with the support of the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation and the Maryland State Council on the Arts
