This opportunity supports Fine Art graduates from across the region by offering a free residency and exhibition in an independent contemporary art space to kick-start the transition from university to professional art world.

OPEN CALL FOR AUGUST 2025 EMERGING ARTIST SOLO EXHIBITION, USA

A.R.C. Gallery is pleased to announce an Open Call for three fully funded Emerging Artist Solo Exhibitions in August 2025. This Exhibition Award is made possible by a generous grant from the Athena Foundation in support of making solo show opportunities accessible to a broader audience. Visual artists of all disciplines, ages and geographic locations are encouraged to apply. The artists will be selected by the A.R.C. cooperative based on the quality of their work and commitment to their practice.

Due to the nature of this call, examples of work submitted must be of the actual work to be exhibited, and include a clear plan of display within the gallery space. Work must be completed, available, and ready to display as of the date of submission. A.R.C. will make the final decision on which space the selected proposals will be installed.

Exhibitions for the three selected artists will take place in August 2025. Work will be installed on July 27, and the deinstallation will occur on August 30th. The Opening Reception will be August 1st, 5-8pm. Selected artists will be expected to be present for all three dates, and to work with A.R.C. members to install and deinstall their work. A.R.C. will work with selected artists leading up to the installation and opening of the exhibitions.

Eligibility

The Athena Fund Open Calls are open to non-members, and non-affiliates with the purpose of bringing in innovative new work. This specific call is for emerging artists. A.R.C. defines “emerging” in regard to this call, as an artist who has not yet had a solo exhibition in a major US city, such as our hometown of Chicago. All work submitted should have been completed within the last 5 years. A.R.C. will favor artists who have a strong, cohesive body of work, a clearly communicated vision of their show, and a well-written and thoughtful artist statement. Artists with incomplete submissions will be automatically eliminated. Artists whose work is deemed excellent, but is not selected, may be added to a roster from which A.R.C. can draw for future opportunities and curated exhibitions.

Deadline for Submission of Applications: Saturday, June 14 at 10:00 pm CST

Open Call | Art Exhibition in China - Inner Landscapes, USA

Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) is happy to announce a group art exhibition open call "Inner Landscapes".

Not all landscapes are visible. Some unfold behind closed eyes, shaped not by geography but by memory, emotion, and thought. These inner terrains—subtle, elusive, deeply personal—form a vast and ever-shifting world that reflects how we see, feel, and remember.Inner Landscapes invites artists to chart the topographies of their inner world:emotional geographies, psychological contours, dreamlike spaces, and abstract states of being. How does grief become a color field? How might joy be mapped as movement or tension traced as a visual rhythm? We welcome artworks that explore this interior dimension—whether through figurative representation, abstraction, collage, conceptual forms, or experimental processes. These landscapes might emerge from dreams, trauma, memories, or meditative stillness. They may be expansive or confined, soft or fragmented, luminous or obscure. This exhibition encourages a deep dive inward—not to escape the outer world, but to reveal how our internal realities shape the way we perceive everything outside of us.

A Call for Illinois Artists: University of Illinois Springfield Library Commons, USA

The Art-in-Architecture Program of the Capital Development Board is pleased to announce a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to Illinois professional artists to create permanent original public art for the University of Illinois Springfield Library Commons.

The budget for the artwork is $118,000.

The Committee is seeking an interior wall art installation that emphasizes movement and flow, emulating the exterior and interior architectural wrapping elements. The total area available for art is approximately 1,014 square feet of interior wall space located within the atrium, a three-story public gathering space serving as a vibrant welcome to the Library Commons. The artwork wall overlooks the atrium, encompasses the west side of the 2nd and 3rd floors, and faces the primary open stairs. The artwork site is viewable from many vantage points throughout the building therefore the work must set the tone for an inspiring and dynamic atmosphere in which students can work and collaborate. The Committee does not have a preferences regarding media or style. The work must be durable, safe, and cost effective to maintain with limited annual maintenance.

AQUACHROME 2025: International Competitive Biennial Exhibit of Contemporary Watercolor*, USA

Par : Manifest
16 mai 2025 à 04:34

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of contemporary watercolor. Open to all traditional and non-traditional approaches to the medium. *Watercolor, gouache, ink wash, tempera, and other similar painting media are all eligible. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental.

Quite possibly the oldest form of painting, watercolor persists today, defying narrow categorization and broad stereotype. Practiced for centuries in concept development preliminary to finished paintings made in oil or other scale-worthy durable media, watercolor also found favor with botanists, illustrators, and portraitists, and was applied to varied and countless surfaces.

The nature of the media itself represents a delicate and dictatorial transparency, fluidity, and a potential for expressive spontaneity. This not only makes it an ideal vehicle for visual art, but also one of training, intensity, philosophy, and play for any who practice it. Where an artist can easily dominate other painting media, forcing a will through viscous layers into a work of art like taming a wild horse, with watercolor there is dialog, compromise, and undeniable forthrightness. In this way the artist practicing watercolor works with a tiger in the room.

$45 for up to three entries. $5 per each additional entry.

Includes honorarium of $50 for each exhibiting artist, and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.

PAINTED 2025: International Competitive Biennial Survey of Contemporary Painting, USA

Par : Manifest
16 mai 2025 à 04:34

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of contemporary painting. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media.

At some point many generations ago society reached a level where ordinary people could spend a lifetime perfecting their ability to mix and apply paint, in extraordinary ways. A decade ago, to mark Manifest's 10th season the gallery kicked off a permanent biennial project surveying painting as an art form. It was first presented in fall 2013 to inaugurate our expanded gallery. PAINTED 2025 will be the seventh biennial presentation of this international survey of contemporary painting.

PAINTED joins Drawn as a recurring gallery exhibition designed to complement our ongoing triennial INDA and INPA (drawing and painting) publications. Every two years it launches our exhibition season by presenting a competitive group exhibition focused exclusively on painting.

PAINTED is a gallery exhibit that calls for works of painting by artists around the world as they carry the tradition forward, or reform it for another day. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental, including those which push the boundaries of the common definition of what constitutes ‘painting'.

$45 for up to three entries. $5 per each additional entry.

Includes honorarium of $50 for each exhibiting artist, and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.

Summertime Vintage, USA

Winners and honorable mentions will be shown at an exhibition at LACP’s DTLA location.

It’s summer, let’s play. Inspired by LACP’s location between the Toy District, Little Tokyo and the Arts District in Los Angeles, this call invites submissions for photo-based works that explore vintage and lo-fi aesthetics and technologies from a multitude of perspectives, practices and approaches. You might be shooting with a beloved 1980s Holga, or giving your images a Lomo touch on your computer. Maybe you chronicle the streets of your town with a Polaroid, or you’re capturing playful portraits of people in your community. You might be working with a combination of alternative processes and digital printing, or completely virtual forms of display. We don’t know, but we would love to see them.

As a style and an approach, lo-fi aesthetics rose to prominence in the 1990s. It was embedded in the Gen-X nostalgia for the hues and cultural objects of their 1970s childhood. It was also a rejection of a cultural mainstream that seemed to have preferred conventions over creativity, and was utilizing those as a way to block entry into centers of production. Lo-fi was connected to street culture, to underground music, to an existence that recognizes things might not get any better. And if they don’t, we should probably make the most of what we have and do it with old Kodaks, if we can.

The introduction of digital cameras during the same decade served a harsh blow to the traditional photographic industry. Slowly, it also nourished a turn toward disposable, snapshot or toy cameras that found their way to heart of DIY indie culture. By the 2010, it was hard to find a single Urban Outfitters store without an old camera section.

This exhibition considers such histories, and our relationships with photographic and technological tools, as well as the ways in which they produce new visual languages, concepts and ideas.

TRAVEL: People, Places, Things, USA

14 mai 2025 à 20:59

Travel expands our sense of the world—and ourselves. It introduces us to new faces, unfamiliar landscapes, and the small details that define a place. Travel: People, Places, Things invites photographers to share images that reflect the essence of movement, exploration, and cultural curiosity.

From sweeping vistas to quiet portraits, from market stalls to roadside relics, we are looking for photographs that convey the spirit of travel in all its forms. Whether taken across the globe or closer to home, we welcome images that reveal the stories, beauty, and surprises found along the way.

We are honored to have Laura Moya as juror for Travel: People, Places, Things. She will select up to 35 images in our Middlebury, Vermont Exhibition gallery and another 40 images for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog and remain permanently on our website, and be promoted on social media with links to photographers' URL.

WEAR: A Call for Works About Clothing, Adornment, or the Worn, USA

Par : Manifest
14 mai 2025 à 01:26

The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of art about clothing, things that adorn or extend the body, and anything we wear. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media, including 2D, 3D, etc.

First and foremost, we dress as a matter of utility: to protect ourselves from nature, to augment or facilitate our physical abilities, and to cover the parts of ourselves we do not wish for others to touch or see.

Clothing, however, is a language all its own. The nuances of what we wear are a way to tell the world, and affirm to ourselves, what we are. The quote from RuPaul, “We are born naked, and the rest is drag”, is a pop-cultural sentiment that contains a deep truth: A kid’s dress-up box doesn’t just contain costumes, it contains identities.

What do you put on in the morning? What does it say about you? What are these things that we wear made from, what do they do, what do they say, and where do they go?

We would like to explore PQ’s role in three main areas:

  1. Developments of performance design, scenography and performance space;
  2. exhibiting and curating performance design, scenography, and performance space;
  3. and PQ’s role as a platform for cultural diplomacy and exchange (particularly in the context of the Cold War).

We welcome brief contributions that open discussion through concrete historical case studies.

You can submit an entry until 31 May via this link.

Please see the full Call for Proposals.

Resonance - Virtual Exhibition & Print Catalogue, USA

Warnes Contemporary x Visionary Art Collective
Deadline June 1, 2025

We are excited to announce an open call for Resonance, our upcoming virtual exhibition and print catalog that explores the deep, often unspoken ways art connects us to something beyond ourselves.

The word resonance comes from the Latin resonare, meaning "to re-sound" or "to sound together." In music, it describes the reverberation of tones. In physics, it refers to the amplification of energy. In life—and in art—resonance is the stirring of emotion, memory, and meaning. It is the unseen echo that lingers long after the initial encounter.

We invite artists of all career levels to submit work that explores this theme—whether through visual metaphors, emotional tone, or the literal or abstract interplay of form, light, and space. What does it mean for something to stay with us, to echo inwardly, to feel undeniably personal and alive?

Selected works will be featured in a virtual exhibition on the Warnes Contemporary website this summer, with all accepted work available for sale on the gallery's website. In addition to the exhibition, selected artists will be featured on Warnes Contemporary and Visionary Art Collective social media pages and included in a beautifully designed print catalog. The accompanying catalog will be available online and at Warnes Contemporary, our brick-and-mortar gallery in Brooklyn, NY.

Eligibility: This international opportunity is open to artists of all experience levels. Work must be available for sale.

We accept all 2D & 3D mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, digital, prints, fiber art, collage, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, and installation art. Film and video are not accepted at this time. We don't have specific size requirements for this exhibition.

This exhibition will be curated by Victoria J. Fry, a New York City-based painter, educator, curator, and podcast host. She is the founder of Visionary Art Collective, New Visionary Magazine, and Warnes Contemporary. Fry has supported hundreds of artists globally, providing resources and opportunities to help them further their art careers.  As part of her mission to increase visibility for emerging artists, Fry partners with renowned curators and gallerists to present both in-person and virtual exhibitions at Warnes Contemporary and beyond, as well as to publish quarterly issues of New Visionary Magazine, a contemporary art publication showcasing artists from around the world. Fry has been a guest speaker for the Women’s Caucus for Art in Washington, D.C., Superfine Art Fair in NYC, Photo Trouvée Magazine, The Art Queens Society, and the Huron River Art Collective. She has curated exhibitions for organizations such as Create! Magazine, Arts to Hearts Project, and The Artful Collective, and has served as a juror for the Women’s United Art Prize. Fry holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (2012) and an MAT from the Maine College of Art (2014).

Commission:

All artwork included in this virtual exhibition and print catalog must be available for sale, as selected works will be listed on the Warnes Contemporary website. Sales will be split 50/50 between the artist and Warnes Contemporary. Selected artists will be required to sign a consignment agreement prior to the exhibition.

Additional info:

You may submit 1-2 images of your work for $25, 3-4 images for $30, or 5-6 images for $35.

Requirements:

  • Please be sure to include high-quality images of your work, 72 DPI, minimum 800 pixels wide

  • All 2D images must be cropped to show only the artwork

  • 3D work must be photographed against a white background

  • Bio, 300 words max

  • Artist Statement, 300 words max

  • Files no larger than 10 MB

Artists will be notified eight to ten weeks after the deadline. All communication regarding this exhibition will take place via Submittable.

Our mission is to uplift artists through exhibitions, magazine features, podcast interviews, and our educational programs. Submission fees go towards funding our platform, offsetting operational costs, and compensating our team and curators. These contributions enable us to continue offering a wide range of opportunities, programs, and resources for artists worldwide. Please note that submission fees are non-refundable.

Request for Qualifications: Sculptural Fountain Project in Johnson City, TN, USA

The City of Johnson City, TN is seeking qualifications from artists or art teams for the commission of a sculptural fountain to be placed in a pond within a newly developed wetland park.

THE PURPOSE OF THESTORMWATER BASIN / WETLAND PARK PROJECT: As part of the redevelopment of the West Walnut Street corridor, a business district between East Tennessee State University and downtown Johnson City, a former business complex was demolished to accommodate a new park designed to alleviate flooding and improve water quality. Storm related flooding is a major concern for area residents and business owners in this area. This project, with a primary goal of stormwater mitigation and storage, will capture surface water, treat it efficiently and discharge it into Brush Creek. As Brush Creek is an impaired stream with causes such as E. coli and sedimentation/siltation, the infusion of treated surface water will be beneficial to the overall water quality of the creek and surrounding areas. The wetland park will include a storm pond for water storage, and the sculptural fountain will be located at this site.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The City of Johnson City is seeking a sculptural fountain design that celebrates ecological restoration, biodiversity, and the return of a tranquil, natural oasis in the midst of a busy urban corridor. The fountain is also intended to serve afunctional purpose in aerating the pond in which it will be placed, improving water quality and the health of aquatic life. Artists will have the option to provide either both the sculptural component and the fountain or the sculptural component only. If only the sculpture is provided, the City will select a fountain and will work with the artist to place it along with the sculpture. Artists who include the fountain must offer an aerating fountain as opposed to a decorative fountain, or include a combination of the two.

The pond will be fed by water from a spring that once belonged to one of the first families to settle in the Johnson City area. Through natural water filtration and erosion control in the wetland park, the water flowing through this area is expected to be greatly improved, thereby creating an environment where more wetland species may thrive. Shade trees will also be planted along the waterways, cooling the water temperature and providing more oxygen to sustain aquatic life. After this period of ecological restoration, it is hoped that indicator species such as frogs, salamanders, turtles, and waterbirds such as the Great Blue Heron will occupy this area, signifying positive changes in the overall health of the natural environment. The fountain design should be inspired by this narrative and should in turn inspire the viewer to reflect upon the importance of water quality in our community. Please view the complete project description at the application link.

ELIGIBILITY: This opportunity is open to all professional artists over the age of 18 with previous public sculpture experience. Artists must reside within the United States.

NYC4PA Call for Entry - APPAREL, USA

Shirts, Pants, Accessories, Outfits, Onesies, Hats, Gloves, Booties, Kimonos, Saris, Sweaters and on and on.   A part of everyone’s day includes the decision about what to wear, and, for many, how to dress the kids and the house pet .
For this call the emphasis is on how you, the photographer, capture these articles of clothing in a creative way.  Does a uniformed officer create the mood in a picture of a crowd, is there a grouping of colorful blouses hanging in a shop, does a small part of a wedding gown catch your eye or is it just fun to see a boot on a child’s foot splash in a puddle or a hoodie on a pup with the ears poking out.

As with all our contests send us your best. All 2D photo processes are welcome.

LOCALIZE Festival for city, culture and art: WE WILL SEE, USA

5 mai 2025 à 03:51

From 18 – 20 July, a temporary festival for city, culture and art will becreated at Aradosee between garages, local recreation and commercial areas.

WE WILL SEE looks at issues of urban policy, communal coexistence and ourshared future.

THE LAKE AS A PLACE OF POSSIBILITIES AND UNCERTAINTY

‘We will see’ – a simple statement that refers to expectation, uncertaintyand possibility. The title opens up a mental space between seeing and the lake(german “See”) itself, between perception and landscape, between projection andreality. The festival poses questions about perspectives, the construction ofreality and the relationship between people, nature and the city. The lake hasalways been an ambivalent symbol. In terms of cultural history, it is a placeof myths, a mirror of the soul, but also a projection surface for socialutopias and fears. Lakes appear in philosophical discourses as borderlinespaces – as a transition between land and water, between the visible and the invisible, between surface and depth. At the same time, they are concretely anchored inthe real challenges of our time: ecological changes, urban development, use ofresources and the question of who owns the urban space.

ARADOSEE – A PLACE IN TRANSITION

A commercial site bordering the Aradosee will become a festival venue andtemporary exhibition space in 2025. On this site, Localize opens up a field ofexperimentation for current social issues. Between bomb pond and former ElDorado for tortoises, Lake Arado has many exciting stories to tell. What willthe future hold? Construction land, bathing pond or biotope? WE WILL SEE.Created in 1750 during construction work to straighten the Nuthe, inconspicuousand hidden, most people in Potsdam don't have this lake on their radar. Itshistory is also almost forgotten: the name of the lake refers to theAradowerke, a branch of an armaments factory that employed thousands of forcedlabourers. While a world war bomb was recently defused in Aradosee, we are nowrearming for a future in which we will hopefully have learnt something from thepast. Or have we not? At the same time, specific questions arise about thepotential and prospects of the site. How can we deal with the spaces stillavailable in the city?

YOUR IDEA FOR LOCALIZE 2025

We invite you to use the site at Aradosee as a temporary experimental fieldfor artistic, performative and discursive explorations. We are looking forprojects that address the theme ‘We will see’ and deal with space, city and ourfuture in an experimental, site-specific and interdisciplinary way. Thefestival site is a commercial courtyard with various rented buildings adjoiningit. The festival is largely open-air, which should be taken into considerationwhen submitting entries. Possible formats:

● Installations in the outdoor space
● Performances and interventions
● Graffiti or painting on 20m house walls
● Video and photography projects
● Workshops, talks and guided tours
● Participatory formats and experiments
● Dance, sound, poetry and more

The festival offers space for unexpected perspectives and unusual points ofview. Works by emerging artists and collaborative approaches with urban societyare particularly welcome.

LOCALIZE – FESTIVAL FOR CITY, CULTURE AND ART

Since 2008, Localize has been opening up urban spaces for contemporary artin Potsdam. With a thematic, site-specific focus, the festival seeks to exploreurban space in transition, interstitial spaces for design and the potential forparticipation.

AESTHETIC DYNAMICS

Call for Exhibition │Free entry

Accepted media: Photography, Video, Digital Visual Design

Group Exhibition in Rome. January 2026

-

The aesthetic elaborations that turn their gaze towards formal dynamics have originated from the studies on the organic world. These have been being developed since the nineteenth century, thanks to scientific discoveries and technological inventions such as the microscope, x-rays, microphotography, etc., and all these are tools through which artists could also observe the natural world: in this cultural context Art Noveau develops as an artistic phenomenon characterized by a style that uses curved and sinuous lines to create fluid and dynamic shapes inspired by nature.

Stemming out of very different principles and cultural backgrounds, other important movements have later given wide space to studies on aesthetic dynamics, such as Futurism, a movement born during the technological boom that allowed a new perception of space and time, and a movement that, inspired above all else by the inventions in the field of communication, gave life to new aesthetics that represent a praise to speed.

The “Aesthetic Dynamics” call deals with a theme that inherits intellectual historical precepts from which, thanks to continuous scientific and technological development, it is still possible to provide new perceptions of reality.

This call welcomes photographic, video and digital works with no limit of style and genre.
